A Hand Colored Botanical Print Portraying Four Varieties of Watsonia. The Artist is the Victorian Jane Webb Loudon (1807-1858), and the Print is from the book “The Ladies Flower Garden of Ornamental Bulbous Plants” (plate 9), published in 1841 by Day and Haghe London, Lithographer to Queen Victoria. The print is triple matted and elegantly framed. Dimensions; 19.5" x 18". Excellent condition. See also item number 601990 (1542A).

This c. 1877 drypoint on copper measures 6 x 9 inches, pencil signed, cat: Schneiderman-152, III/V, artist proof. Sir Francis Seymour Haden was one of the most important British etchers of the 19th century, along with his brother in law James Whistler. In addition to being a highly regarded artist he was a successful surgeon, accomplished author and dedicated angler. He was a founder and the first president of the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers, and was knighted in 1894.

THREE hand colored French 19th century prints featuring early-day Japanese soldiers, each 9 1/4" by 6 3/8" inside the faded old violet mats, to which each is simply taped at top edge. The prints are unframed. Two have a dark foxing mark, and all are of sufficient age to have acquired the signs of age---paper toning, slight handling creases and so forth. Fresh mats and frames will display them properly and preserve them for another 150 or so years...

Scarce Currier and Ives lithograph print, sheet size 11" by 15", image area 8 1/2" by 12 3/8", titled "Prairie Hens". This is apparently a scarcer small folio image, as Cohenour prices it over $400 in his Currier price guide. The print is in acceptable condition, with the image area generally clean, and only one tiny spot of foxing visible, although there is a diagonal light crease at upper right corner, visible only when viewed in raking light...

An original 19th century antique "small folio" Currier & Ives lithograph print with hand coloring, "A Home on the Mississippi", measuring 9 3/4" by 13 1/4" inside the present mat, 16" by 20 1/2" as framed. Condition is above average with no major damage as viewed; hand coloring is rich and not light-struck. There are minor flaws as typically seen in prints of this age such as slightly uneven paper tone. The 1871-dated print is of desirable southern subject matter...

A hand-colored engraving after William Henry Bartlett (1809-1854), titled "Eastport and Passamaquoddy Bay", 1839, engraved by C. Cousen, printed by George Virtue of London, England. Tiny foreground figures relax on a bluff overlooking the panorama, framed by a feathery tree at right and close-in island. William Bartlett was a well-known artist at the time, his topographical scenes very sought after. They proved popular works for transfer to engravings which could be widely distributed...

Rare, large folio size (16 1/2" by 20 3/4" inside the existing mat) hand-colored original 19th century lithograph print "Lake Winnipiseogee from Centre Harbor, N.H.". This is a fine and desirable image, examples of which have appeared at auction in New England. Lake Winnipesaukee is the large lake with islands that occupies a portion of central New Hampshire, south of the White Mountains. Today, as it was in the nineteenth century, it is a popular recreation and tourism area...
