There is an unidentified maker’s mark of ZL. The logs are hollow. The marks have been struck on the smaller anchor bars. The longer sides measure about 1 ¼ inches long and about ¼ inch in diameter. From our World Handicrafts Collection (ex-Asia), a handsome inlaid wooden box from Oaxaca Mexico, very attractively executed with dark brown inlay upon a lighter straw colored base wood. The box is fairly light, not quite balsa wood weight but light nevertheless, and is fragrant on the inside where the exposed surface of the hewn wood has not been varnished. Regrettably, we have forgotten the name of this interesting wood. In any event, a lovely gift item.
