Gianni Versace's 1991 Pop Art collection with the Andy Warhol prints is considered by most to be the best of his work. (In fact, his sister, Donnatella reprised it---along with the original models--this past season.) The jewelry was basically done for the runway and is very scarce. We were very pleased to get this necklace from the original show. It is a single strand that has a second strand attached mid way on either side. Offered here is a magnificent Matl necklace created by Ricardo Salas. It is the ultimate statement piece. Nineteen panels in total, each with three amethysts and sixteen turquoise cabochons. I believe this likely dates 1980's. It's signed and hallmarked, hand etched, with "Matl Mexico 925 M. Reg 142073 MS-12". When open, the inner length, not including the clasp, is just shy of 17". Width is 2 1/4". Weight is 217 grams. Collector quality.

Each of the twenty-two panels have a pyramidal amethyst framed with twelve turquoise cabochons. It's nice and long, measuring 18 1/2" without the tongue portion of the clasp. Width is 13/16"...

Karen Smith, a contemporary American artisan, refers to herself as a "knotter of miniature tapestry adornments." She designs knotting patterns in washable nylon thread and integrates them with gemstones. This particular necklace is composed of a serpentine dragon carving with amethyst, turquoise, black onyx, jade and goldstone beads. It is hand signed Karen Smith '06 on the back. It is a remarkable and outstanding artwork! I measures 28" end to end (measured using the inside string of beads).
