This stylish basket weave purse was quite the rage during the 1950s when Dorset Rex marketed this patented purse during the Eisenhower years. The patent was actually issued in late 1949, after which a wide range of purses entered the market. The Dorset Rex tag tells us that the purse was made after 1951, thus we date it c. 1955.

I went and learned a lot about early plastics from Andrea DeNoto's book, " Art Plastic," and the best I can come up with is Thermoset Phenolic Resin.
