Found in New Hampshire, this is a beautifully and meticulously drawn map of the South American continent, from the Isthmus of Panama to Cape Horn, signed at lower right one "Rosa W. Miner" (or, "Mines"). The work, which measures 13" by 10" in a simple earlier 20th century frame, is drawn in pencil, with watercolor forming the borders of the various countries...

A landscape albumen photograph of Darjeeling India. Titled in script in the negative, “534. Darjeeling. General view with the Snows(?) from Woodland’s Hotel.” Presumably, “the Snows” are the snow-covered peaks of the Himalayas that show more as a line of clouds, but are visible in the distance. The details of the image are sharp at the center, but blur slightly at the edges.

A charming completely hand-drawn map of the South American continent, likely created by a school child at a time when geography was taught to youngsters, measuring 8 1/2" by 6 1/2" (19" by 15 1/2" in black strip modern framing). The age looks to be 19th century. The creator used a red-brown ink, and pencil underlying in some places. Note the cartouche at lower right, and the quaint term "Amazonia" and "Brasil" spelling. A late 19th century souvenir: miniature bone binoculars depicting Catskill Mountain House, another hotel building, waterfalls and more (can be seen, but not photographed). These truly minimal magnifying lenses were invented in the 18th century by Lord Stanhope. Measures: "1/2 x 1/3 / 12 x 9 mm. Condition: some general wear consisting with time, but both lenses are working.

The Karla Caves are a group of ancient Indian Buddhist rock-cut caves located in Karli near Lonavala, Maharashtra. The one pictured is the Great Chaitya. It was dedicated in 120 CE. Rare and early vintage albumen print of the Shimbashi Railway Station in Tokyo, with festive decoration and banners wearing the imperial seal "kiku-mon". The Tokyo to Yokohama rail line opened on 14th October 1872, with a great ceremony as the emperor took the first official ride, arriving at Shimbashi Station in a Western carriage. Mounted on coeval cardboard. Condition: fine, minimally faded, a tiny hole. Dimension: photo: 20.1 cm x 25.9 cm, cardboard: 34.8 cm x 43.8 cm.

For the collector of things relating to the history of the state of Missouri, here is an early survey map drawn completely by hand, titled at top "Estate of Jos. Hickam decd. in 1848...", signed at bottom right by the surveyor, one W.W. Trent of Cooper County. Cooper County is near today's I-70, roughly between Boonville, Missouri and Columbia, Missouri. An albumen photograph of Lake Como and the town of Como by Giacomo Brogi (1822-1881). He was a successful photographer with shops in Florence, Rome and Naples. The business was continued by his son Carlo Brogi (1850-1925) who according to Wikimedia is responsible for photographs in the series with numbers above 8000.
