Maiwai-gi which is a festive kimono of fishermem. It was given to fishermen from a master of fishermen or an owner of a fish boat on the occasion of large catch. It is mostly made of cotton with auspicious motifs with katazome (stencil-resist-dye) and partly hand painting. The original location of the Maiwai-gi is Boso peninsula in Chiba prefecture since late Edo period and spread along the Pacific Coast. This one has thick cotton lining so that it is made into yogi (kimono shaped bedding)...

1950's Chinese Gilt Cloisonne Enamel Box with Peach and Bat

It is 6.5 inches (16.5 cm) tall by 9 inches (23 cm) wide. It is 4.4 lb.

It has missing enamels and enamel cracks, rubbing of gilding, bent metal rims, oxidation, enamel pitting, and surface wears and scratches (as seen in the photos).

Japanese cloisonne small vase with blooming roses. There is a fully bloomed red rose and a small budding red rose. Along the base, there is a blooming white rose with pink edged petals. The body of the vase is a cool white. Taisho period, early 20th century. It measures 1.75" base diameter, 4" widest, 5" tall. Good condition.

This is a Swedish National Museum publication from 1975 devoted to the artisans and products made by the Gustavsberg factory. Profusely illustrated in black and white. Swedish text, but an invaluable reference guide because of the illustrations. Excellent condition.

Women’s skirt from the Bahnar (Ba Na) ethnic group from the Central Highlands of Vietnam, woven from fine handspun cotton using all natural dyes. The weaving is very intricate and refined, note the use of narrow warp ikat bands throughout this piece. This is one single panel which would have used to make three other skirts. See last enlargement for a complete example. L: 2.9meter/9.5feet and W: 66cm/26in. I have two complete skirts- please contact if interested.

2nd-3rd C Gandharan Schist Buddhist Temple panel carving. The panel depicts the Buddha sitting on a platform with attendants bringing offerings , behind the Buddha are a pair of tree branches with wide foliage . The Buddha and platform is almost 8" alone. The piece has been repaired as seen from the back but the damage runs under the necks of the attendants and does not affect the faces . The face of Buddha has some damage ...
