The Takahashi family is along with the Ueda family the oldest potter family in Shigaraki and Takahashi Rakusai III b.1898-1976 was largely responsible for the revival of unglazed Shigaraki pottery in the 20th century. Working in the third generation he was designated a "Shiga Prefectural Intangible Cultural Property" in 1964 for his countless efforts. He was succeeded in 1976 by his son Takahashi Rakusai IV who was designated by government as "Intangible Cultural Property"...

A difficult wood with which to work, ebony is also an exceedingly attractive one as this hand carved crocodile attests with its exotic and realistic hide. Bone teeth and eyes complete the sculpture. These figures date from the early to mid 20th C, possibly of Indian origin, and are frequently found with lost eyes and teeth, making this one a choice specimen.

This is one of the Steuben animals that I have never seen before. Measuring 5" high, he was introduced in 1974, and I don't know when he was discontinued, but I know he isn't available anymore. He is in perfect condition. It is Steuben number 8293.

Very old Dan mask with circular eyes, protruding forehead, long thin nose, protruding lips, small chin. This mask is of the "gunyeya" type, and was used during the running competitions which were organised to train men to run and fight. It is made of wood, with a fine dark brown glossy patina. Its height: 19.8 cm. The mask is nicely mounted on a custom stand. Africa, Ivory Coast/Liberia, first half of 20th century. Obvious signs of use and age, otherwise very good condition.

Japanese bronze okimono (also can be used as scroll weight) of a resting ram by the metal artist Masahiko Katori (1899-1988), who was recognized in 1977 as a holder of Intangible Cultural Property - the term refers exclusively to human skills possessed by individuals which are indispensable to produce Cultural Properties...

This six-sided bangle is a truly rare Georg Jensen piece and undoubtedly has gone out of production. It was bought in 1968 and has not been worn very much. This is a design done more than 50 years ago and a long-time GJ dealer in New York says he cannot remember ever having seen the piece. Inside one of the six sides of the bangle is the Georg Jensen mark in a circle of dots, 925S Denmark, and the number 177. The internal diameter is 7cm (2.75in).

Gorgeous silver plate gravy boat by Christofle of France, fashioned after the Empire Period of Napoleon, named Malmaison after his home in France, large size with attached underplate, mid 20th century. Measures 9" x 5 3/4" x 6" high. The hallmark indicates that the piece was made between 1935 and 1983, and has the Coll Gallia impressed mark as well. Like all Christofle wares, the details are very refined, the forms are beautiful and the quality is superb...

Incredible copper brass, and mother-of-pearl crab dish, Mexico, c.1945. One of the most exciting table wear pieces from Mexico, unsigned. It measures 19" long by 13" wide by 4" high and is very heavy weight. This is a charming baby carrier from Guang Xi which is similiar in shape to those carriers from Rao Jia region. It is made of hand-loomed cotton fabric which is hand stitched and hand embroidered with butterflies and flowers using both cotton and silk thread. The sculptural shape makes a very pleasing wall hanging. The condition of this carrier is very good.

Large stylized murano glass figure of a kneeling Asian, rendered in two shades of smoky gray glass with amethyst undertones. The figure is made of simple forms, but the attention to detail is evident in the face and head of the figure. Japanese limited edition sosaku hanga “kappa-ban” (stencil print) on crumpled hand-made momigami paper by Sadao Watanabe (1913-1996) titled “Entry into Jerusalem” depicting Christ on a donkey riding over a flower strewn path and surrounded by a crowd of followers. Incredible precision is the hallmark of this hand embroidered baby carrier from Ge Jia. The piece is bordered with batik and hand stitch detail which is so fine and precise that it looks like it was done on a machine but it was definately done by hand. This carrier is in very good condition. This older style is now highly prized and rarely appear on the market. baby carrier is 23 inches wide at the top and 27 inches long.

Classic cheese knife made of sterling and rosewood by Hector Aguilar, Mexico, c.1948. This heavy gauge silver piece shows a lush Mexican design with a curved sterling blade and measures 6 1/4" long. It is signed "HA(flared) STERLING TAXCO MEXICO 9(bellmark)TALLER BORDA" and is in good condition. There is an 3/4" slight age crack in the wood on one side and there is a bit of metal roughness at the outer edge on both sides that could be original...

RARE:Beautiful, early Georg Jensen art nouveau sterling and garnets pill box, c.1915. It is signed "GEORG JENSEN(embossed on base-1915 mark) 925S(embossed) STERLING DENMARK 143A". It measures 1 1/2" in diameter and 1" high. The silver flower is applied. There are a few problems with the piece. There are no dings but there are some repairs. I think the hinge has been reapplied with lead solder. and there may OR may not be a red glass stone that was applied and set in brass(at the top)...

Very lovely black lacquered 'suzuri bako' writing box with mother of pearl inlaid leaves and swirling gold gilt vines on the cover. Inside is a silver ink pourer and ink stone and brush. This Famille Rose porcelain GuanYin figure is a mid-20th century product. It depicts a seated GuanYin holding a gold globe in her left hand. It is 10 1/8” high and 8” wide and 5 1/8” thick (both measured from the bottom). The artist name, Zheng Long Sheng, is stamped on the bottom. It is in great condition.

Japanese framed print depicting a noh mask of a young woman, in monochrome colors. Attributed to artist Kimora Kosuke (b. 1936), title "Noh Mask Red". With an attractive black and silver frame.

Kosuke was born 1936 in Osaka, and graduated from Kyoto City University of Arts in 1956. His works have been featured in the collections of The Museum of Modern Art, New York, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, The National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo, and others...

This Miao Chinese ethnic minority jacket would have been worn by a teenage girl for festival. All the batik work was hand-painted and all stitches and embroidery was done by hand. The row of silver hemisphere's across the back represent the "bubble" in the Miao creation myth.

The jacket is approx 70 years old and is from Zhi Jin

This well carved stone laughing Buddha is 3 ¼” high (with wood base is 5” high), 4 ¾” wide and 2” in depth. It depicts a laughing Buddha (Budai in Chinese; Hotei in Japanese) comfortably leaning on his ever present cloth sack. His left hand holds a ruyi scepter; his right hand holds a gold nugget. A young boy is resting on the Buddha’s right knee. Aside from natural blemishes on the back of the statue and two crack lines in the wood base, it is in great condition.
