A cast iron beast, probably a tiger. The elongated shape of the animal, the size, the sagging of the back, suggest that it is a brush rest. There are a lot of modern cast iron copies, which may be the case here, but we can certify that this little tiger has been in the Sakura collection for at least forty years, which proves nothing. 4.5" Has the word “Navajo” stamped in the bowl, and a rocker engraved face stamped in the bowl, similar to that on the handle. It has two arrows on the handle. c. 1895-1910.

First purchased at Chautauqua in New York State in 1908. The doll is c. 1890. 10.25"

A PAIR of antique prints of Plains Indians, likely from the 1841 edition of "Letters and Notes on the Manners, Customs and Condition of the North American Indians", Catlin's iconic book on the subject. The prints were printed by Tosswill and Myers of London in that year as illustrations in that work. Measurements are 7 1/4" by 5 1/4" inside the mats and 14" by 11 1/2" in modern strip frames. These prints are HAND COLORED, unlike many from the 1870's and 1920's which were printed in color.

Fully worked front and back as well as across the unseamed arms, fringed cuffs and bottom perimeter. The arm consists of Germantown yarn and the red is unraveled flannel. Length 25" c. 1870 "After an intensive search, less than a hundred examples have been located which can be considered as representing the type of work produced previous to the 1880's. Antique Chinese guan pi xiang (document box), made of huanghuali hardwood and finely cut brass plate mounts and hinges. The top opens and is held in place by a small chain. The doors open to reveal 7 drawers of different sizes. Each drawer has been fitted with jewelry tray inserts covered in white raw silk.

Fire lighting implement consisting of a piece of iron, pieces of fabric and a fragment of flint stone, the whole set being contained in a rattan box. This implement belonged formerly to a member of a tribe located in Palawan Island, South West of the Philipino Archipelago.
