This ceramic wall plaque was produced in France at the Manufacture Nationale de Sevres in 1928. The artist is Adrian August Leduc. His painted signature is on the back of the plaque as well as an impressed mark. It measures 11 ¼ inches in diameter and is 1 ½ inches deep. The design is abstract and high relief. A set of Japanese tsuge (boxwood) combs in delicate hand-cut design, ca 1950, never been used. The combs made out of tsuge wood has been known to be gentle on the hair and scalp without causing static. They were treasured by the women and men for many, many centuries. For maintenance of the combs, camellia (tsubaki) oil has been used (but good vegetable oil should work as well?). This porcelain plate was produced in Germany by the Royal Berlin Porcelain Manufactory or KPM in 1925. The date letter indicates this year. The plate has a diameter of 9 ¾”. It has a finely reticulated border, all outlined with gold. The center of the plate is hand painted with a scene of the 13th century fortress at Godesberg, Germany. A work of studio pottery, found in Southern California, the color a rich earthy brown, the vessel pierced intentionally by the artist to create naturalistic openings, similar to the distinctive style of Peter Voulkos (1924-2002). The piece measures 7 1/2" high by 5" diameter. The piece is signed on the bottom "Balvin 79". Surprisingly I do not see a studio potter by this name, but the artist was obviously talented and also familiar with Voulkos' acclaimed work.

DESCRIPTION: A three gallon Roseville stoneware crock with an off-white exterior glaze and dark brown interior. The bottom is inscribed: “3 gal., R.R. P. Co., Roseville, Ohio, USA.” These larger crocks are perfect for your antique kitchen implements such as rolling pins, large wooden spoons, etc. Excellent condition, no chips. A set of 4pcs of Chinese silver dishes with beautiful Chinese characters carved on each dish. In excellent condition, marked. Weight:175.3g Largest is D:8cm to 7.6cm.

This ornate pectorial is from the Highlands region of Papua New Guinea and would have been worn by a man during ceremonial occasions. It is made from plant fiber, which was pigment dyed and studded with nassa shells. The piece is accented on either side by a large white cowrie shell.

This wonderful ethnographic artifact was obtained from the estate of an anthropology professor in St. Louis. Having been stored away for many years, the color of the pigment dyes are still relatively strong.

This lovely Heisey Orchid wine stem is in excellent, undamaged condition. The bowl is surrounded by an acid etch motif of upside-down orchids and big sprays of ribbons and bows. The Tyrolean stem is quite bright and elegant all attached to a clear broad foot. It stands 6 1/8" tall, and I have one more in my inventory. A very uncommon French Art Deco cocktail pick set in the form of a fisherman navigating his boat. A dozen picks, each topped with a red bakelite ball form oars along the sides of the boat. The whole is attached to the original wooden base.

Very fine 1920's deep yellow guilloche enamel sterling silver 8 day clock. This lovely clock measures 4 3/4" high and is 3 1/2" at its widest point. This embroidered cloth from Paktya province measures 22 x 22 cm and is in excellent condition. Eight-pointed stars are repeated in symmetry and bordered by scroll motifs, all executed in silk thread in solid stitchery on a fine pumpkin linen background. This textile is in excellent condition. Estimated age: mid to late 20th century. The last photo shows the textile from the reverse, which is as equally fine in detail as the frontpiece.
