Early vintage rosewood & sterling silver dish or ashtray designed & signed c. 1930's by American & Taxco, Mexico artist William Spratling (1900-67). The piece measures 3 1/4" across and 1 1/2" high. The hand carved octangular wood holder is inset with a hand hammered 980 sterling silver liner. Signed twice - WS TAXCO 980 on the silver, also WS TAXCO branded into the underside of the wood. This porcelain and silver tea cup and saucer was produced in Germany by Freidrich Deusch silver company circa 1950. The set retains its original paper labels which cover the porcelain blank mark. The saucer is 6 inches in diameter and the cup is 2 inches high. A delightful design of hand painted birds and flowers is outlined in silver. It is a rare and desirable set to find.
