An earthenware terracotta bottle vase and stopper. The vase is decorated with transfer printed "famille rose" enamels depicting flowers birds and marine life. This item was made by Watcombe pottery, Torquay, which was operational from 1869 to 1883. The base carries the impressed date mark for October 1878. This beautiful brilliant bowl seems to be unsigned, but it is truly beautiful and extremely heavy. There is one tiny flake at the top of one of the teeth. It measures 9" in diameter.
