He's perched on a set of chrome leaves that hold the six chrome and plastic-topped cocktail picks. Cocktail pick holders ("porte-piques") were once a fixture of every French bar and café. This little wooden box is a fantasy delight to hold your most often worn rings and other jewels. It has a leather-look surface embossed with a gryffon rampant on top. The edges and all sides are ornately patterned. It as a lock, but the key has disappeared into the mists of time. There are some minor scuffs on surface. The box is 4¼” x 3½” x 2¼” in size. The age unknown, best guess is midcentury.

This box measures 5 1/2" x 3 1/2" x 2 3/4". The top has a beautiful design with a bezel-set, green / turquoise, bezel set stone "handle." The top is sterling silver. The base is copper with a wooden inlay. The inside of the top is marked STERLING S & E for Sweetser Manufacturing Co. The bottom of the copper base is also marked S & E (with the company's hallmark) numbered 19928. It has a monogram I cannot decipher (which, of course, can be removed by any jeweler)...

Circa 1925 antique or vintage (about 100 years old!) framed ornate manuscript style ode to the home and house, from the writings of poet and author Maurine Hathaway, with gilt background and intriguing spots of color, measuring 10 1/2" by 9 1/2" fully opened out. The piece is hinged in the middle so is meant to stand on its own on a table top. I do not believe the color and gilt hand applied, though, it gives that appearance. The inspiration is clearly from medieval manuscripts...

A special box to hold a secret? This is an unusual rectangular bronze casket-form in ornate Gothic Revival style, having cast bas relief, highly decorated with religious motif illustrating scenes from the life of Christ; circa 1870's. The original interior is lined with balsa wood and most likely used as a tobacco cigar caddy box. These boxes were popular souvenirs of the European Grand Tour and were based of the great treasures of Continental Europe...

DESCRIPTION: A handsome pair of walnut wood Neoclassical style carved and stained candle prickets with circular tops above turned, tapered and fluted shafts with leaf tip ornaments, above swelled bases with splayed feet. Italian, 20th century; silver and gilt highlights on each. Unmarked, good condition. DIMENSIONS: Overall height 25.25".

A nice vintage leather box embossed “Studs” on the top. Most of these boxes are round, but this example is a much more uncommon horseshoe, the lid also embossed with a horseshoe. These boxes were original intended to store shirt studs or cufflinks, but can be used for any variety of gentleman’s accessories.

Origin: probably England, ca. 1950. Condition: excellent. Dimensions: 2-1/2” x 2-3/4” x 1-3/16.

A carved horn cocktail pick set in the form of a flying bird that looks rather like an albatross. The bird has inset glass eyes. The natural coloring of the horn is used to good effect in the bird’s wing and tail feathers. The set is completed with a holder containing ten cocktail picks with horn finials...

Pair of decorative leather bound bookends with brass accents. Silver tone metal mounts of a Griffon accent the brass; gold tone stitching accents the rich brown leather. Bears logo of Mark Cross in gold on the bottom of each piece. The bookends measure 6.5 inches (16.5 cm) tall, 5.5 inches (14 cm) deep and 6.25 inches (15.9 cm) wide. Some scuffs and marks from use, but no rips or tears to the leather, nor dents to the metal. Circa 1960.
