This saye gosha (or segusha) shows the dynamic use of line and vivid color for which Uzbek Lakai embroidery is famous. Saye gosha are V-shaped hangings used to decorate piles of quilts while in storage during the day in the yurt. The Lakai are an Uzbek tribe who currently live around Kunduz in northern Afghanistan. A stunning pair of gold gilt mirror image cloisonné hat stands. Often used as vases, the front of each hat stand features a vase of flowers with a peaceful scene of a man in a boat viewing the horizon. The sides and back have assorted images of Chinese scholar article and Buddhist symbols. Decorative trim work along the top rim and bottom rims, are a nice finishing touch to the enameled background which is a dark rust color with thin gold colored cloisens creating the shape of tiny clouds...

Pair of vintage Chinese cloisonne brush pots decorated on the front with scholar's desk objects set against a blue background covered in cloud cloisons. On the back of each is a gourd and sprig of coral. A ruyi band encircles the top. The rims are copper and blue counter-enamel is in the interior and base. Each measures 9 1/8" high x 4" diameter. Chinese jadeite carved pendant of a melon with its vines and leaves draping down its side, and a cute mouse crawling up the side. It hangs from a red cord necklace and has a small jade bead on the thread atop of the pendant. Size: (jade only) 1.75" height, 1" width

This Tibetan woven wool sash from the mid to late 20th century measures 5½ x 104 inches (14 x 264.2 cm) including the braided fringes and is in excellent condition. These sashes are used by Tibetans to tie their traditional apron attire (chuba for women, lokpa for men) and also to secure knives, bundles etc. The luster of these wool belts is derived from the high lanolin content to be found in the hairs of high-altitude goats living in the Himalayan range from which these belts are woven...

Contemporary Korean single section kitchen cabinet, made with bold elm wood (Keyaki in Japanese). This piece has an upper and lower set of sliding doors with attractive latticework over rice paper. The top and mid region have four small drawers across, with the very top middle drawers as hidden compartments. The bottom of the piece has two doors on hinges, and a middle lock to match the others.

Chinese clock made of brass with cloisonne, six cloisonne columns, on the front behind glass is the clock face and a small oval shaped painting of a country scene with a lake and mountains with trees in the foreground, on either side of the clock are painted grecian style figures, a small oval plaque on the back is stamped with "Made in People's Republic of China", size 12" high. Size: 11 1/2" high x 8 3/4" wide x 4 1/2" deep.

Pair of mirror image porcelain elephant candle holders by Mottahedeh for the DuPont Winterthur Museum. These elephants are hand painted reproductions of the original 17th Century Chinese joss stick holders that are in the museum's collection.

Bhutanese colorful Bamboo Bangchung covered Food Basket, 8 3/4" diameter, 3 1/2" high include top cover, hand woven colored Bamboo, yak skin pull or handle is attached to bottom basket on the side to pull open, usually this type of baskets closes very tight to store food, leather handle on the side is helpful to open top and bottom apart. The condition is good.

Mirrors ("shisha") are extensively used in Afghan embroidery. The silvered mica or glass is attached to the fabric by means of stitched frameworks and encircling borders. By reflecting sunlight, mirrors protect the wearer from negative energies and evil glances. This child's dress front is densely embroidered in silk thread on a purple polyester ground, complemented in royal purple velvet on the reverse...

A hand-embroidered Uzbek curtain from northern Afghanistan, mid to late 20th century. Silk floss thread on green cotton in long and short stitch, this textile is fully reversible and either side may be used as the face. It measures 84 x 105 cm including the silk fringe. The central rosette is enclosed by borders and surrounded by curved and sinuous patterns in vivid contrasting color. Condition is very good but with some slight fading and a few small dark stains in one corner.
