DESCRIPTION: A pair of porcelain figures, each a representation of Li T'ieh-kuai, one of the Chinese eight immortals. Li T'ieh-kuai is always represented as a lame beggar leaning on a crutch with a pilgrim's gourd in hand. The Eight Immortals are legendary beings of the Taoist sect who attained immortality and dwell in the remote hills and mountains of China. Antique Japanese letter box in a wonderful rich brown wood that has the most fantastic wood grain , that moves with the light . This piece came from Kagoshima Japan in the 90s.

Cap mask or headdress carved from wood, covered with antelope skin and with a base of woven basketry for attachment to the head of the masquerade. Two antelope horns are affixed to the top of the mask. Remnants of human hair around the top of the piece. Several holes beneath the upper jaw suggest the former existence of wooden pegs to represent teeth. Africa, Nigeria, Ekoi/Ejagham Peoples, early 20th century, probably older...

A delicately painted Satsuma pottery jar with two courtyard scenes of daily life for the Japanese elite. The rest of the jar features a complex ground of various patterns. There has been a professional repair to the vase lip, but otherwise excellent. Measures 6 inches high with lid. Signed on bottom.

A very old New Guinea Massim lime spatula, made of intricately carved dark wood. The spatula portion is missing. This is not my specialty; identified by major auction house expert. A fine example of Melanesian ethnographic carving. Measures 12" by 4 1/4" (extreme dimensions). The thin tip is broken, as shown.
