Sancai

Antique Chinese sancai (three colors) porcelain. Referring academically, in earliest context, to three color - ochre, green and cream (more rarely also blue as a fourth color actually) - decorated ceramics of the Tang dynasty. Sancai continues to indicate primarily this palette in production through the Qing dynasty. But the term also finds liberal use refering to other three color decorated wares in the verte palette and others - often (loosely) stretching to not count white (cream) as a color.
