A circa 1930 colorful, beautiful, accomplished woodblock print of a Christmas cactus, by Austrian-born artist HUGO NOSKE (1886-1960). Noske was born in Vienna and was a very talented artist, perhaps best known today for the technically accomplished, wonderful woodblock prints of floral subjects, often specifically cacti or Christmas cacti, on tissue-like Japan paper. This is one of those prints. Measurements are 12" by 13 1/8". The highly delicate paper is NOT laid down, just taped at upper corners to a cutout mat. The print is signed in the print and at lower right margin in pencil is "Original Holzschnitt, Handdruck". On the outer mat is written in pencil "Noske, Cactus". At upper right there is a little fold-over near the tape holding the paper, otherwise condition and colors are excellent.
