Unusual lightweight original watch chain of made of gunmetal, a material used to make decorative chains, purses, brooches, buckles and other items during the Victorian era. Gunmetal is an alloy of copper and tin. Our chain has a lovely complex knot link that is shown closeup in the images. A Very Fine Big/Old Pine Tree by 소림 (小琳) 조석진 (趙錫晋) (1843년~1897)-19th C.: Korea, Joseon dynasty. A large single old pine stem and branched painted in ink and color, on silk, described, signed and two seals “小琳, 趙錫晋. This painting dedicated to Mr. Reid for his birthday gift, 1952. This porcelain cup and saucer was produced in Germany by Furstenburg between 1753 and 1770. The saucer has a diameter of 5 1/4 inches and the cup is 3 inches high at the handle. The cup has the traditional Biedermeier style handle that raises above the rim of the cup. There are hand painted bands of grape vines and grapes done in earth tones. Antique African Wrist Knife with protective leather sheath. When the sheath is removed from the metal disc, a decorative piece worn on the wrist is turned into a lethal weapon. Unusual porcelain bowl in the shape of a double gourd with two separate compartments. The large section is for washing brushes; the small section may be used as a brush holder.
The outside of the large bowl is decorated in underglaze blue with pavilions in a landscape with mountains and a river. The edge is faceted and painted with cloud-like shapes. The outside of the smaller extension is decorated with stylized flowers. Ribbed knob on top (19-petaled chrysanthemum).

This is an old silk satin obi in maru obi style (design runs on both sides from one end to the other). This obi was probably made from a uchikake gown. It is very soft and feather light with soft padding inside. The padding is wrapped with floss silk inside to keep the soft material and padding intact - you need many years of experience. The design is auspicious with cranes, chrysanthemums and sho-chiku-bai (pine, bamboo, plum blossoms), all delicately woven with floss (untwisted) silk yarn...

An unusual Japanese circular wooden stand with black and red lacquer finish, the edges of the stand are inlaid with shell, standing on slight cabriole tripod feet.

Stunning original 17th century Japanese Amida Buddha statue, gold gilt over wood with inlaid crystal on his third eye and his crown chakra. He stands on an open lotus pedestal atop a circular step base, his hands performing the virtaka mudras. Behind him is a canopy of lingzhi smoke and 7 boddhisatvas seated in the heavens. The reverse of the carving has a small iron plaque with Kiri leaf mon of the Ashikaga clan, waves, and a calligraphy brush.

Early Edo Period (1603 - 1868)

A fine snuff tobacco container made of a dried, double gourd, decorated with gilt silver mounts and inset with carnelian and tiny blue and white cabochons. The ram horn-shapped stopper is attached to an elaborate silver chain. These tobacco containers were used by the Turkman tribes. Condition: fine, few traces of usage. Dimension: c. 14.8 cm long, Diameter: c. 6.2 cm.

An antique Japanese Isho Tansu (kimono storage chest) made entirely of Kiri (Paulownia) wood. All original bronze hardware and Oxblood red Urushi lacquer finish. Drawer lock plates have an unusual stylized insect-like incised design with fine stimple work accents and handles in the Warabite style. True dovetail joinery and hardened wooden nails were used in the making of this chest.

Chinese altar table made of huanghuali wood, carved with many swirling dragons, beautiful grain all over, 20th century. Size: 33 1/2" high (35 1/4" high including flange) x 80" long x 19 1/2" deep.

A pair of absolutely stunning quality smaller silex axes, from the Singlegrave period-to early Daggertime, 2800-2000 BC.

Both are expertly polished and long slender types, likley for precision work in wood. One is greyish with nice fossil-remains in the silex surface and likely dating rather late perhaps even Daggertime, the other a scarce type and likely dating earlier, with a marvelous amber-orange patina.

Antique Japanese figure of a Buddhist guardian, possibly Fudo Myoo, the Immovable One, the protector of Buddhism and true Buddhists. His stature, his curls, and his intense eyes are all traditional characteristics of Fudo Myoo. His red coloring is reminiscent of a Nio guardian. He stands on a rocky ground with one hand raised as if shielding his eyes. Carved of wood and painted with mineral pigments and gold. His eyes are painted glass.

A Very Fine Korean Gourd Shape of Koryo Pottery Bottle-13th C.: Korea, Koryo dynasty, 13th to 14th century. Japanese Kanzashi hairpin, maki-e on hand carved wood. A dadaiko (large drum used for court music) and maku (outdoor fence made out of cloth) under the maple trees. They are pictorial subjects from chapter 7 of The Tale Of Genji, Momiji no Ga (An Autumn Excursion). There is a famous scene frequently illustrated from this chapter; Genji, a young and handsome grandson of the emperor, danced 'Sei Kai Ha", Waves of the Blue Ocean, with a maple branch on his crown, which made all the jaws of court ...
