Japanese woodblock print depicting an actor portraying a seated samurai. The image is signed at the left side "Ichiyusai Kuniyoshi ga" (1797-1861). The red Yoshi Kiri seal is beneath the signature. The print was published by Ibaya Senzaburo between 1847-1848. The paper measures 14 1/2"V x 9 7/8"H. It is most likely a panel from a triptych. Very good overall condition with excellent color. The print is not backed. No tape or tape stains...

This pair of porcelain vases was produced in Austria in the 1890s. They have a beehive marking painted over the glaze. They are 8 5/8 inches tall. The diameter at the widest point is 4 inches. The form of the vases has a classic, clean silhouette. But the tour de force is the jeweled decoration. Raised enamel beads or jewels imitating sapphires, opals, amethysts, and rainbow quartz accent and drape around each vase. There are garlands of tiny pink roses and tiny gilded rosettes...

A brilliant set of 5 gentlemen from the Edo Period C.1850 by Kunisada I, one of the masters of the time. He was given the name Toyokuni III by his famous teacher Toyokuni in 1844. An Excellent Porcelain Armorial Inkstand or Deskset, made by Edme Samson et Cie, Paris, circa 1880. In a Rectangular Shape, with Two Inkwells, with Inserts. Dimensions; 10.25" wide x 7,75" deep x 3.5" high. In excellent shape, except for a slight chip on on of the inkwell tops (see picture). There is no mark on the underside, but it is definitely Samson, based on other items we have recently posted.

Fire brigades were made up of samurai class (buke hikeshi) as well as common class (machi hikeshi). Their primary goal in containing a fire was to tear down the surrounding buildings so the fire had no more fuel...

19th century Japanese small lacquered wood netsuke representing a theatrical mask of O-Beshimi. Uncommon image, excellent intense face, great patina. Crisp detailing, nicely lacquered, some wear to the surface. Signed RYUUN on the back bar - the artist is listed in NETSUKE MASKS by Raymond Bushell, p. 175, signatures 241-243. Height 1.07 inches.

A rare Japanese antique Sado Island Child's Kimono Tansu made of Kirinoki (Paulownia) and Suginoki (Cryptomeria) woods. Original natural Urushi wiped lacquer finish with hand forged iron hardware. The lock plates feature cranes and sea turtles that symbolize longevity and the drawer corners feature stylized clouds.

Children's kimono tansu are quite rare to find since they had to be custom made by the tansu maker...

A fine and delicate antique bronze right hand of Buddha. Not mounted, good condition and natural aged patina. Fingers down and palm outwards symbolizes gift giving or bestowal. Small size: L. 14 cm. x H. 4.5 cm. x W. 4 cm. We also have the left hand in this size.

Kangxi style, but probably early 1800s

This vase is painted in green, yellow, turquoise and black enamel on a pale aubergine background, depicting various dignitary figures in a garden setting. The interior is fully glazed white, having some minor pitting and small iron specks in the glaze. The base is unglazed with areas of light orange re-oxidation from the firing, and the fine white paste is visible around the perimeter. There is a spurious Zhengde mark in black enamel on the shoulder...

A rare Polychrome Woodcut "Artisansin Straw" by Mitsuoki Tosa (1617 to 1601), Japan, framed. From a collection of Artisans. Good condition, size: 19.5" x 13.75". Tosa Mitsuoki was one of three outstanding Tosa painters to the imperial court, also known as "Three Brushes".

It was carved by a late 19th century or early 20th century artist Ryuzan (柳山). It depicts a smiling mother holding an umbrella and carrying a child on her back. It is 7 1/2" high and 2 3/4" wide (from the bottom) and 2 3/8" thick (from the bottom). It is in great condition.
