Small tsuba (probably meant for a wakizashi), with a decoration in rief of a bird flying over waves. Eroded and oxidized iron. Japan, mid Edo period. Height: 2 11/16" (6,7 cm). Very good condition.

Porcelain vase of bulbous body and elongated neck, with a hand painted decor in blue over a white background representing a phoenix in clouds. China, Qing Dynasty, early 19th century or earlier. Height: 18,4 cm. Tiny chips around the rim and base, otherwise very good condition.

A very high quality mahogany drop leaf table with turned legs and stretchers with a shaped apron at either end. The three boards, one for the top and one for each leaf are well matched single boards. Excellent proportion and a nice small size. 27 ½ tall X 28 ¾ long X 11 ½ wide in inches. With the leaves up 31 ½ inches wide.

Condition; minor repairs including the replacement of one of the feet. There is an old breakout at one of the joints...

A rare and very finely decorated "ogee" shaped bowl painted on the outside with five blue five clawed dragons amongst flames, against yellow ground, each grasping a flaming pearl. On the base is the six character iron red seal mark of the Jiaqing emperor and this item was made during his reign (1796-1820)...

 

From our European Collection, a very fine Federal Giltwood Pier Mirror, early 19th century circa 1800-1820, featuring a looking glass surmounted by a good maritime scene, bordered on top by a pair of angels exquisitely rendered in gilded gesso suspended beneath an overhanging cornice, and flanked by gilded ribboned columns on the sides.

This particular mirror is an excellent example of its kind, and is especially well-preserved...

A large robustly potted Chinese square section canister decorated in typical Chinoiserie style with a scene of Pavillions, Bridges and islands dating to the early 19th century. The vase stands approximately 13 inches high and is 8 inches square. It is in good condition except for a hairline crack from the shoulder with related chip, and a restoration work to the neck. The extensive overpainting apparently hiding a chip, possibly filled, and a re-stuck piece to the neck...

A late 18th/early 19th Century porcelain figure of a cockerel very finely painted with vibrant "famille rose" enamels. This item was made in China, probably for export, during the reign of the Jiaqing emperor (1796-1820). Condition - as appears to be usual with these pieces, there has been good restoration to the comb - the rest is in extremely fine condition...

As mentioned for other similar items on the site, this type ware is often mistakenly referred to as Leeds and featheredge. In reality, many factories other than Leeds made items of this nature, and the type edge here is more properly called a molded edge. This particular plate was made by Riley, and is indicated as such with an impressed mark on the back. Being able to identify the maker does increase the value to some extent...
