In Japanese legends he is often accompanied by Tenaga (long arms) whom he puts on his back and goes fishing. This is a finely potted Qing dynasty blue and white shallow dish. It has a pair of phoenix soaring in the sky. On the base it has a four character mark "Zhing Tang Fu Chi". This date the dish to the late Qing dynasty, possibly Guangxu period - late 19th century to early 20th century.

Generally in good condition. No chip, crack, hairline or repair. Only a pin hole as shown in picture no.4.

The diameter is 13.3cm and the height is 4.3cm.

Very unusual 19th century lacquered wood netsuke of eagle talons clutching a tama (Precious Gem). Beautifully carved out of dark dense wood (probably kurogaki - black persimmon), gold lacquer highlights to the folds of the talons, tama is lacquered in Negoro style - red lacquer over black, so as it wears the black and later wood start showing. Beautiful wear and patina. Length 1.7 inches.
