Fine Japanese (whale tooth material) netsuke of a rat; very well carved; nerve fissure present on the belly; good condition

Hotei, one of the seven lucky gods. Painted with ink on paper. Signed and sealed. It is accompanied by an inscripton authenticating the painting that it is painted by Okamoto Hansuke. It is attributed to Okamoto Hansuke(1575-1657).

Okamoto Hansuke(1575-1657) was a military tactician and calligrapher of the early Edo period. His original surname was Ishigami, and he later inherited the Okamoto clan. He is well known by his given name, Nobunari, and his common name, Hansuke...

The large vase with silver wire cloisonne on ceramic with "tree bark" textured surface. Decoration of butterflies and peonies, with the blooms depicted in enamel tones of sienna, umber and dark mica, and the stems and leaves in dark green - almost black. The body of the vase covered with a dark, warm brown lacquer on intentionally course texture like tree bark - which it emulates. The Kyoto, crackle glazed greyish porcelain body visible from the foot. Taisho era (1912 - 1926). Good condition...

Rare funerary cone with three registers of sunk hieroglyphs reading: (1) The Bearer of the brazier (2) of the temple of Amun, (3) Nekhy.
This cone and a second one held in a Japanese collection are the only known examples of the type, which is enumerated as 650/B.23 by Zenihiro.
Both the name and the title on the cone are uncommon. The personal name Nekhy is not listed with Ranke...

Antique Japanese suzuribako (calligraphy writing box) for a merchant. Made of keyaki (elm) wood burl with iron hardware. Two drawers: one for writing implements and one drawer with a lock for keeping money, seals, and important documents safe. A top compartment with a hinged lid would have kept an ink stone.

DESCRIPTION: A Japanese Imari porcelain dish, shaped in “double fish” form and decorated in traditional Imari colors with floral designs in rust red, and fish scales and fins in royal blue. The reverse has painted florals and grasses on the four sides. Late 19th/early 20th century, and in excellent condition with no chips or restorations. DIMENSIONS: 10 ½” long (26.6 cm) x 9” wide (23 cm).

19th century netsuke in manju (rice cake) shape carved with an image of Fukurokuju (one of the 7 Gods of Good Fortune) pulling a fox costume mask onto his head and holding a 9-tailed whip in his hand. Whip design continues on the back showing an attendant boy, one hand raised in amazement, the other holding a fan. Very unusual subject of a Lucky God as an actor, the whip is a clear reference to a mythical nine-tailed fox...

This mid. 19th century Japanese Imari (Aka-e) vase is almost 10 ½” high and 4 ¾” on widest part. There are two sections; one depicts a painted phoenix, butterfly and maple tree, the other depicts a geisha holding an umbrella standing in front of iris and hanging flowers. The rest of the vase is decorated with floral and textile designs. It is in perfect condition.

Antique Japanese hibachi or brazier made of beautiful original keyaki hardwood. Bold natural grain with warm finish. The front features five small drawers convenient for storage. Glass has been added to the top of the allowing it to be used as a small table. (Glass removed for photos). Original seen in the patina copper within. The medallion decorated with the head of a satyr with wild locks and curled heavy beard. The face shows a fleshy nose, full lips and wide open eyes topped by marked eyebrows. The bold head with fine floccus. Goat-like ears.
