From our Southeast Asia Collection, a large and classic 19th century Burmese Hsun-ok from Pagan, of well- known and documented form, constructed of wood that is first lacquered in black, and then covered in successive layers of cinnabar-colored lacquer called hinthabada. Over time, through use and handling, the cinnabar lacquer wears off to reveal the black lacquer base underneath as seen on this example, in an effect likened to the negoro effect seen in Japanese lacquerware...

Daunian krater with globular shaped body and funnel-shaped lip. The vertical loop handles on the shoulder area alternate with two red colored plates.
Brown-red and bluish geometric decoration around the body, wavy lines with ivy leaves at the handle area, hanging semicircles inside the funnel opening.
The geometric decoration is cold-applied and slightly rubbed in places.

Pointed aryballos decorated with compass-drawn scales highlighted with purple dots.
Tongue pattern down the shoulder, above the foot and on the flattened rim. Zig-zag decoration on the strap handle.

19th century (late Qing Dynasty - 1890s to 1911) unusual Chinese scholar’s rock in a form of a large natural amber nugget. The piece is true Baltic amber, large for amber as material, can be viewed from 2 sides, and conveys a very good feeling of a lonely mountain with its surface weathered by years of exposure to wind and water. Japanese porcelain Kutani ware stand or brush rest, in the classic Yoshidaya enamel colors of green, yellow, purple and dark blue. Of a squared form, with hollowed interior and pierced melon shape sides. The top surface is detailed with image of a monk riding a tiger through the bamboo forest, leaping over a river. The sides are detailed with blue and yellow enamel ground with geometric patterns. The piece stands on four short feet.

Chinese Peking glass brush washer in the form of a lotus blossom in pink and white glass with green foot in the form of a curling lotus leaf, unusual and beautiful shape - round with slight gourd shape. Republic Period. Size: 2.25" height and 3.5" diameter.

This antique Chinese wooden carved pedestal stand with attached mirror dates is from the late Qing dynasty. This piece of furniture would have sat on a dresser or chest. The carving is high quality and begins at the base. The mid section carving displays a dragon and pagoda. The frame of the circular mirror has bats carved all around.

This piece has been held in storage by a Texas collector and is in excellent condition...

This incense burner is cast with a low relief design of mythical beasts among vegetation. It is raised on four feet and has separately attached dragon-form handles. It retains its original rich brown patina with old residue on the interior from many years of use. Acquired in the mid 1970s in Kyoto. Good condition.

Carved to fit the hand perfectly, this Japanese ivory page turner offers elegant design combined with function. The artists skill becomes even more evident when the page turner is held. In excellent condition save for one small shallow chip about 2-3 mm, see last photo, very hard to see, but can be felt if you run your finger slowly along the blade. The page turner measures 18.5" x 1.25".
