Choice red-ware rim fragment featuring a beautifully detailed lion. The feline approaches with a forward-turned front body. The head with delicate detail and a shaggy mane. An ancient Egyptian Scarab, 3000 years old, from the famous Mitry collection (see our Homepage). It is 1/2” long (13 mm) and made of steatite, an easy-to-carve stone that hardens when heated. Notice that the bottom resembles a human face; this was done frequently. Scarabs empowered life and resurrection and were often placed under mummy wrappings to protect the body and to help it resurrect. This Scarab comes in a jewelry display cup.

Japanese antique choba tansu (merchant's chest) with locking bars and safe box. Made with keyaki (zelkova) wood frame, hinoki (cryptomeria) wood drawer fronts, sugi (cypress) wood top and side panels. The upper portion has three large full-width drawers held into place with a locking bar. The lower portion has two medium sized drawers held in place with another matching locking bar. The lower right hand side has a safe box opened by a hinged door...

This porcelain trinket box was produced in Germany by an unknown company in the 1890s. It has an under glaze blue crossed swords mark imitating the mark of Meissen. From the workmanship it must have come from the Dresden area. The box measures 2 3/4 inches long, 2 1/2 inches wide and 1 1/4 inches deep. The box is hinged and has a gilded metal frame. The lid is hand painted with a scene of lovers in a garden. There is pink and gold trim around the top and bottom rims...

A lovely depiction of Buddha enthroned, interesting early provincial SE Asian style, c. 15th.-17th. cent. AD.

The style is very attractive with a beautiful painted visage with serene features. The style looks mostly like provincial Thai, but we're not certain. The figure has much age and a fine dark gilt patina.

Size: 26,7 cm. high and 18 cm. wide. The base is filled with something as hard and heavy as stone.
