Antique Japanese small merchant's box. Although this tansu has the appearance of a gyosho bako (peddler's box), it does not have loops for carrying straps. It was probably custom made for a merchant's raised platform area. All of the drawers feature hand forged iron lock plates and mounts. One of the smaller drawers is stained with ink meaning it would have stored an ink pen for receipts and accounting...

A Toddy or Punch Ladle in Sterling Silver by Gorham in the rare Louis XIV pattern, for Theodore B. Starr and Herman Marcus. It is in a bent ladle shape (may have been straight originally, but more likely it was based on designs in the George III period) and dates from about 1870, when the design was patented. It weighs 6.4 Troy ounces and measures 8" x 5", with a bowl of 4.5" x 3.5". Its unbent length would be 14.5". There is a monogram "N" on the underside of the handle...

This Shou Shan stone carving of Zhang Guo (or Kuo) Lao is a mid 19th century product. It depicts a seated Zhang Guo Lao. In his left hand, he is carrying his emblem Yu Gu (or Ku) or fish drum which is a tube-shaped bamboo drum with two iron rods. His right hand is resting on his knee. There is a straw hat hanging on his back. The statue is 4 ½” high, 3 ¼” wide (from the bottom) and 2” thick. The carved wood base is not included. The carving is simple and elegant...
A rare and finely carved boxwood tobacco box that could be hung from a man's belt. The lid carved with a 3-dimansional pair of Fo dogs, the sides with floral carvings with a bird and a deer. The opening where once the rope was attached, is in the shape of two bats.

A splendid Chinese celadon brush holder formed in the style of a scholar rock. The crackled glaze along with the celadon is a classical style that began during the Song dynasty and became popular among the ruling elite. This mid or late 19th century Chinese porcelain hexagon seal box is 1 ¼ inches tall and 2 ½ inches wide. There is an honorable Ming Dynasty Hung Wu mark on the bottom. The cover depicts a man holding a staff walking toward a hut. The building extends over a pond. Another man is resting in the hut. There are a bunch of small houses and trees beside the pond. Mountains dominate the background. It is in great condition.

This leaf shape famille-rose brush washer is 1 ½ inches tall, 4 ¼ inches long and 3 ½ inches wide. It is dated and signed to the Tong Zhi period (1862~1874). This very unusual table measures 52" square when closed, and has four leaves, each measuring 11 1/2" wide, bringing the table to 98" long when full extended. There is a center leg for support. The base has huge paws with decoration on the pedestal. It is in perfect condition.
