Fine Meiji Period (circa 1870) Bunraku Puppet of a Sambaso Dancer. This rare puppet is operated by three Puppet Masters, who make it come to life to present a magical theatrical experience. He is carved of wood and covered with Gofun. He wears a rich blue and red robe with white under robe, and his head is adorned with a gold and black velvet hat. An embroidery Crane graces his back. The bells on his feet sound when he dances. 35 inches (89cm) height.

Late Edo Period Musha Ningyo of Minamoto no Yoshitsune. This wonderful example of high quality has an extraordinary presence, sumptuous brocades, gold lacquered armor, a spectacular helmet, and many other fine details. A large pair of temple foxes carved from granite. The Inari foxes come complete with separate plinth bases. This pair of Kitsune (foxes) is finely rendered with ears pricked back, tail upright, with paws and hinds seated on its bases. Japanese antique wonderful set of six puppet figures, known as oshi-e ningyo. The set includes a beautiful maiden, a samurai, a female attendant, a male official, Ebisu and Daikoku, figures are made of very thinly shaved layers of wood and paper with silk clothing and painted details, each figure is held by a stick and fitted with a stand (made later), the oshi-e ningyo were often made by households in Northeastern Japan and were made to celebrate girls day or as a prayer for happiness...

The Oiran and her attendant are wearing the most gorgeous, sumptuous brocades and textiles, all hand woven and painted chirimen silk crepe of beautiful shabori designs. The faces are exquisitely carved and covered with many layers of gofun (white oyster shell lacquer)...

Antique Japanese warrior dolls, musha ningyo displayed for the Japanese Boys Day. Clad in armor is a beautiful young widow, the Empress Jingo with her faithful retainer/high ranking minister, Takenouchi no Sukune. He is holding her baby Ojin (Oh-jin) who was later known as “The God of War”, the 15th Japanese emperor, Emperor Ojin. These are all original dolls including the baby.

Some old records indicate that in 300 AD, God came down to talk to Empress Jingo in her sleep...

A 19th Century Isho Ningyo set of two Geisha entertainers, one a Koto Player, the other the highest ranking Orian singing. They are of the finest quality. They have beautifully carved faces and hands, and wear gorgeous, sumptuous brocades with fantastic embroidery. The Orian has fine embroidery of a carp ascending a waterfall, a crane, and turtles on waves. The Koto Player has embroidery of cherry blossoms and patterns of gold threads. The Koto is made of paloma wood, teak, and ivory...

Sublime ceramic Kannon statue of old Kutani-yaki made by one of the greatest potters, Aoki Mokubei. The statue is 200 years old and in great antique condition with only a small repair on the right hand with transparent lacquer and only one! tiny spot with peeling of glaze. Old Japanese doll resembling the Kuge (aristocrat) from the Heian period (794-1185), 16 inches tall. This doll was probably one of the zuishin (imperial guard) dolls for the Hina Festival (Girl’s Day in Japan). His long face mostly resembles the Kyoho-bina which is the imperial pair dolls from the mid Edo period (1603-1868). Considering the quality, size and time (late Edo), this doll must have been made for someone special...

Lovely petite American rosewood settee, circa 1880, hand carved with fruit and nuts. The yellow upholstery is in perfect condition and compliments the settee perfectly. It measures 40" tall x 64" across x 32" deep.

This is one of the nicest pair of stacking bookcases that we've had, mainly because you can fit large size books in them. Each one is four stacks high, but they are much higher than the usual stackers, and the bottom two are also a lot deeper. Each of the top two sections measures 13" tall x 34" wide x 11" deep...

A masterful rendering of an unusually large rooster posturing in full stance. The metals used are copper, silver, and gold. The major body of the cockerel is called shibuichi which is meticulously composed of silver and copper mixture. The feathers are beautifully sculpted and chased in details. The movement of the feathers pronounce the figurative composition. Its tail feather is patinated and infused into the silver.

One of the best tables we've ever had the pleasure of selling, this mahogany table is 60" round when closed. There are twelve leaves, each 9" wide, making the table extend to fourteen feet when completely open. There is a center for support when open. The center pedestal is heavily carved with acanthus leaves ending in paw feet. The table is circa 1870. It has been professionally restored and is in perfect condition. Tables like this are terribly hard to find, and we are thrilled to be off...

Beautiful flame mahogany dressing table with marble top, all in excellent original condition. This lovely table is transitional from Empire to Victorian, circa 1870. It has a shell stretcher, and perfectly matched flame mahogany drawers. It measures approximately 73 1/2" tall x 39 1/2" wide x 23" deep.

Lovely American Eastlake walnut parlor table, made in the 1880s. It has a white marble top, and an great base with a gallery around it. It measures 30" tall x 31" wide x 23" deep and is in excellent original condition.

Beautiful ladies chair in a variation of the Rosalie pattern by Belter. Henry Belter became fameous for taking layers of wood, mostly rosewood, and laminating them so that they could bend and form a wonderful shape that showed off the wood so beautifully. This chair is typical of his work, and was made between 1850 and 1860. It measures 39" tall x 24" wide x 29" deep and will make a wonderful addition to any room

Beautiful walnut burl three piece Renaissance Revival bedroom set circa 1880 consisting of bed measuring 64" wide x 80" long x 7'8" tall; marble top washstand measuring 32" wide x 21" deep x 47" tall; marble top dresser measuring 44" wide x 22" deep x 8' tall. Both the bed and dresser have urn finials, and the whole set is in immaculate original condition. The graining of the burl on this set, especially on the bed, is exceptional. All three pieces are a matched set and were always together.

The best Victorian bed we've ever had or seen, this half tester American bed, circa 1860, is absolutely beautiful. It measures 10 feet tall, 83 inches long and 68 inches wide. It takes a queen size mattress. Its in all original condition with the exception of the top having been recovered. Probably made in New York by Prudent Mallard.

Exquisite rosewood marble top center table crafted in the 1850s. It is attributed to Joseph Meeks, one of the top cabinet makers in New York of the period. Absolutely the most beautiful American Victorian dresser I've ever seen! Made by Mitchell & Rammelsberg circa 1870, this mahogany dresser is 9'3" tall, by 60" wide, by 25" deep. It has three long drawers over another hidden drawer, and all interiors are maple. Pictured in Dubrow's book "Styles of American Furniture," there is one like it in the Newark Museum. The carving of a women's head at the very top is just beautiful. We will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

This rare and wonderful table was made by John Henry Belter circa 1850-1860. It has a white marble top, and four c-scrolled legs - each one different. There is a dolphin, an eagle, a boar and a hound. The table measures 29" tall x 42" long x 32 3/4" deep. A table exactly like this one sold at Neal Auction in 2003 for $50,000. This is a very rare and wonderful piece of Americana.
