Late Meiji - early Taisho (1900-1920) okimono size wooden mask of smiling Okame. Wonderfully captured facial expression, cleverly exaggerated cheeks sticking out, great quality carving typical for the Hida school. The material is ichii (Japanese yew wood) with clever use of wood texture to add to the charm of the piece. Signed SUKEZUMI on the back - the artist must have been a Hida school carver and worked on netsuke as well. Height 5 inches.

This porcelain charger or platter was produced in Germany by Donath Dresden before 1920. It has a diameter of 12 1/4 inches. The charger is beautifully hand painted in the Meissen style. There is a bouquet of realistic flowers rendered in vivid colors. Lacy gilding trims the rim. Condition: Excellent. This is a splendid charger for use or decoration.

Late Meiji (1890s - 1910s) Japanese bamboo wrist rest used by painters and calligraphers, with low relief carving of a sparrow in flight, its wings spread wide. A pair of small Japanese shrine candlesticks. Each would received a long standing candle inserted onto each small spike. Swirring vines and flowers depicted on both half round base and round lipped top. Unusual small size.

Antique Chinese porcelain censer in the form of a lotus pod with wonderfully sculpted, red-accented petals. The lid is gilt and the handles are two lotus buds with curled leaves. Japanese antique bronze censor, decorated all over with archaic motifs and scrolling vines, stands on three legs with heads of horned mythical creatures, the base is covered with rolling waves, handles in the form of fu-dogs, lid is covered with clouds and topped with a fu-dog, rectangular cartouche on bottom, illegible. This Japanese okimono quality bronze turtle has a champleve decorated shell that opens to reveal a pipe stand. The turtle measures about 6 1/2" long x 3" wide x 2" tall and dates to the turn of the Century. The turtle has the makers' impressed seal underneath. The condition is very good with just a chip to the end of the tail and the hinge pin is missing. The asking price includes shipping within the USA.

Porcelain beaker decorated in transfer and polychrome enamels with scenes from Boston. The scenes include Faneuil Hall, Bunker Hill Monument, and Old State House. These glasses were made in Bohemia and Germany from the 1890's until World War I. We are also offering similar glasses featuring Mackinac Island, St. Louis and Cincinnati.

Origin: Bohemia, 1891-1918. Condition: near mint, with very slight wear to the gilded edges. Size: 3-3/4" tall.

This porcelain bowl was produced in Germany by the Royal Berlin Porcelain Manufacturer, or KPM, in 1918. The markings include the iron cross used for that year. The bowl measures 11 1/2 inches in diameter and 6 1/4 inches high. It has a wonderful shape, not round but blown out in four corners, although the bowl is basically round. It stands on an impressive pedestal base. The body of the bowl is hand cut with a basket reticulation...

Late 19th to early 20th century Chinese agate carving of a goose standing in a stream by the rocks as it pecks a flowering peony bush. Beautiful stone, clever use of its natural color to differentiate the bird from the plant, excellent quality carving, high polish to the surface. Height 1.6 inches.

This porcelain figurine was produced in Germany by Nymphenburg in 1913. It has the first quality impressed shield colored blue and printed mark on the bottom. Niki is incised on the front of the base. This piece is pictured on the cover of “Nymphenburger Moderne” by Alfred Ziffer. It measures 12 1/2 inches tall, 9 inches long and 7 inches deep. Niki is well modeled by his master Willy Zugel. Hand painted details are under glaze...

One of its sides has a small bird perched upon a branch with outspread wings, with mixed metal inlay including gold, silver, and shakudo. Antique Japanese silver kanzashi, the upper design part is gold plated with finely engraved three oak leaves. *This was one of the most popular crests among the warrior samurai class particularily among close devotees of Shinto. This porcelain demitasse cup and saucer was produced in Germany by Hutschenreuther in 1914. The saucer has a diameter of 4 1/4 inches. The cup is 1 7/8 inches tall with a diameter of 2 1/4 inches. The set has bands of deep, ruby red. Gilded medallions contain bunches of forget-me nots. Lacy gilding overlays the ruby red ground. The rims, handle and interior of the cup are heavily gilded. It has a brilliant, classic style. Condition: Excellent, without defects of any kind.
