Solid gold, silver, shibuichi and sentoku inlaid shakudo tsuba. The setting presents us with a Japanese warrior slaying an enemy wearing foreign armor that seems to be Chinese or even Mongol. This could be a reference to the attempted invasion of Japan by China Mongols in the 13th century. The tsuba bears the signature of Yoshiaki who was one of the greatest artists of his time...

An antique Japanese lacquer Inro with images of persimmons on a gold flecked background. The Inro has five compartments, a boxwood netsuke carved in the shape of a persimmon and a metal ojime incised with floral and geometric designs. The inside compartments are covered with dense nashiji lacquer (fine gold flecks). Exceptional.

Late 19th C Chinese famille rose porcelain pillow with a lovely hand painted design of woman in a garden setting with the opposing side featuring a bird perched in a beautiful flowering tree. The enameling on the bird and tree is particularly rich. On one end of the pillow there are 8 spur marks surrounding the pierced decoration. In good antique condition there is some general wear and rubbing, some chips at corners and kiln pops along the edges. Measures 5" x 5" x 2.5"
Art Nouveau glass decanter with engraved silver overlay. Made by Alvin Corporation in Providence, ca 1890. Conical with cut-to-clear geometric ornament at base, and star on underside. Dense overlay with rinceaux, flowers, and scrollwork. Ball stopper with grape bunches and leaves in strapwork frames. Decanter is cranberry and stopper is clear. Silver fully marked including maker’s stamp and no. R112QT. Very good condition.

This beautiful crescent pick bannerstone is 3". It is in perfect condition with no damage or nicks anywhere. It is made from gorgeous concentric green and black banded slate. Found in Williams County, Ohio. From the collection of Dana Staley.
Very beautiful Kuro Oribe Chawan of early Edo period:
Only very little distorted half cylinder shaped (hanzutsu) tea bowl made of light, coarse, unrefined Mino clay. The expertly thrown body is covered with the typical, glossy black iron oxide glaze inside and outside, leaving an unglazed 'window' on one side. The 'window' is decorated with chidori (plovers) flying over an irrigation wheelin iron oxide glaze which has then been covered with a clear ash and feldspar glaze...
This is a very rare projectile point made from a stingray barb about 1000AD. It is 6 1/4 long. It was found in the Pacific Islands. It is translucent and very sharp. There is no damage or restoration. It has obvious rework. It is from the Dr. Raymond Thomas collection. I have only seen two of these in all my years of collecting. The other one was one of my most viewed artifacts on this site.
A pretty Victorian maple swing-handle sewing basket, the interior lined with colorful pleated silk plaid. The bottom, upper frame and handles are constructed of maple, and the spindles forming the sides of the basket are ebonized.
Origin: America, ca. 1900. Condition: excellent, except for a narrow age split in the wood at one end of the upper frame. Size: 8-1/8" x 5-3/4" x 9" high.

This circular box with domed lid displays a well-painted scene of a lady standing in a rocky garden, holding a banana leaf and a sprig of flowers. The enamels are rendered in meticulous detail in a pallet of greens, aubergine, yellows, reds and shades of blue. On the sides of both the box and lid, there are three cartouches outlined in blue with a peony sprig in each...
Height approximately 37 cm. There are some slight improvements to the end of the cover. There is a chip at the cover. More pictures are available.

From the collection of Irwin Hersey, renowned author on Asian and primitive art, and publisher of the Primitive Art Newsletter in the 1970s. A fine large cylinder seal of the early Jemdet Nasr barrel shaped design, Mesopotamia, 3300-2900 BC. The seal is carved in a hard and dense material either a marple type or perhaps shell (?).
Seal very large for the period and craved with a fine grit-pattern and concenthric lines at each end. A string-carved round line at one side would have been made in antiquity.

Featuring a baluster shaped body and a waisted neck flaring to a wide trumpet mouth with an applied straight handle, curving inward to where it is attached on the top, opposite its short curved spout. It is decorated with carved vertical lines, chambering its body and is covered overall in a green-white “Qingbai-type” of glaze. Its base remains fully unglazed...

Up for sale is a Qing dynasty imperial Prince's brown dragon robe panel, late 18th or 19th century, executed in the Chinese Kesi weaving technique, 2 profile dragons surrounded by colored clouds, bats, and other auspicious Buddhist symbols above the sea waves, rocks, and standing water / Lishui. Panel is backed with light brown silk damask with peaches, Buddha's hands,and pomegranates. Very rare. Excellent condition.

Pair Chinese Hardwood Display Shelves/Stands, Ca early 1900's, 21" high, 31" wide, 7" deep each, very heavy dense Hardwood shelves with rounded corners, for the Scholar's display purpose for their precious small objects. Multiple shelves are between 4" to 10" high and 5" to 19" wide. It is very difficult to find a pair in this quality and condition. The weight is heavy and the condition is good.
