Fine Small Chinese Song / Yuan Dynasty Celadon Glazed Porcelain Jar

This attractive small porcelain jar was made in the 12th - 14th century during the Song (AD 960 - 1279) or the Yuan Dynasty (1279 - 1368). It is quite "heavily-potted" and coated in a thick pale olive-green glaze. The body, when soft, was indented with five wide vertical impressions to give it a lobed appearance. The foot remains unglazed revealing the pale grey body...

This is the type of early Mei-Ping flask which was used in the 1,300’s to 1,400’s by the Chinese to transport mercury for trade to be use in gold mining operations. They measure 6.5 to 7.5 inches high and were found in the port of Tuban, Indonesia on an unknown shipwreck. This particular piece has an un-repaired crack in the body but is intact.

This is a fantastic little copper point from the Afghan/Turkestan area. It dates to circa 300 BC. It measures 142 mm in length and weighs 37 grams. It has a circular perforation in the tang. The piece has a light, attractive patina and is very solid and stable with no signs of damage or repair.

In the mid 15th C a freighting junk loaded with fine Vietnamese pottery sank in an area of the South China Sea called the “Dragon’s Embrace.” Around 1994 local fishermen began finding pottery in their nets. This is a beautiful little round porcelain box from the now famous Hoi An shipwreck. This one is roughly 6.3 cm in diameter. It has little sea creatures still stuck to the underside - visible in the last enlargement.

Superbly made, crisp carving, excellent lacquering with various colors, wonderful work in Japanese taste, in great condition. Length 3.37 inches.

Japanese Meiji to Taisho period ogi folding fan decorated with a single bird in flight over treetops. Signed at the right and with artist's seal. Late 19th to early 20th century. Measures about 8 3/4" vertical x 18 7/8" across from tip to tip. Very good, clean overall condition with some minor crinkling of the paper at the corners. The three points carved in scarce translucent hardstone, not silex. Two of them can probably be dated to the 2nd.-1st. millenium BC, but 1 could be much earlier. Very hard material and amazing that they could manage to make such refined artifacts of this size...

This service piece is also consistent with the traditional Japanese "Mukozuke" - appetizer dish or bowl - which could range in shape and proportion from a shallow bowl to a high walled cup-like form...

Small and lightweight, one side of the delicate silver engraved handle is monogrammed in script CGT, the other side awaits the initials of a new owner. Large Chinese Qing dynasty porcelain bowl decorated on the exterior wall with stylized forms thinly washed in deep blue-gray over a celadon-gray crackled ground.
