This melon-form biscuit porcelain pot is mostly covered in rich yellow enamel glaze with green enamel used to pick out the leaves and stem. A low foot with dark enamel glaze supports the melon on its side, and an opening is carved in the top to receive the water and brush. There is an old hairline crack that runs from the opening down the side for about an inch and there is a small chip on the side of the opening, but it is still completely usable as a brush washer.

This circa 1860s example has an expertly carved, smooth-angled handle that ends in a flourished, curl-like shape. The overall form of the tool, when viewed in profile, takes on a somewhat futuristic, space-age design- an interesting concept given that this tool is approximately 160 years old! This handsome tool measures 8.25 inches long and sports a warm, aged, brownish patina.

This unusually-shaped small stoneware jar was made during the 12th Century. It has a globular body that flares down into a relatively wide foot with a flat base. The body is decorated with four groups of three vertically incised parallel lines. Around the mouth is a serrated edge.

Height 6 cm. Where the glaze is at its thinnest it has flaked from the surface in places, but there is no restoration or repair.
