This attractive small covered jar was made during the 13th / 14th Century (Song / Yuan Dynasty). It is coated inside and out in a pale greenish Qingbai glaze that is finely crackled in places. Early 19th century boxwood netsuke of a man carrying a cloth bundle on its back with a boy’s head sticking out of it, while a huge dragonfly landed on the father’s sleeve. Wood is lacquered in Negoro style - red lacquer over black, so as it wears the black starts showing, and then the wood. Pair of Portuguese Classical silver candlesticks, ca 1840. Each: Globular socket with turned downleaf-and-dart rim; knopped and baluster shaft on domed foot mounted to shaped square base with applied leaf rim and splayed corner paw supports. Dentil, diaper, pointille, guilloche, and gadrooned ornament. Marked. Very good condition with deep patina.

An interesting Hizen-yaki, Arita kilns foliate rimmed bowl. Center decoration of a Chinese scholar in tropical landscape. The cavetto and exterior decorated in the Kraak manner. A spurious four character Xuande mark on the bottom, inside the unglazed high foot rim. 19th century. Good condition. Diameter, about 6 5/8 inches. Height, about 2 2/8 inches.
