Small Chinese Tang Dynasty Pottery Recumbent Horse

This small pottery model of a recumbent horse was made during the Tang Dynasty (AD 618 - 906). It is made from a buff-coloured pottery that has been "cold painted" in a white pigment. Note the detail of the horse's mane and its legs tucked under its body. Length 14 cm. A chip to its front left knee. No obvious sign of any repair.

It is the Katazome cotton cloth which this was made for Edo period and was dyed on the basis of a natural indigo plant. As for this, cotton is spun by hand and is slightly thick. 19th century very small Indian bronze votive sculpture of seated Ganesha with his trunk to its left, and holding the elephant goad and battle-ax (parasu) in his rear hands, and sweetmeats in both front hands. Large bronze bracelet of flat shape decorated on one side with several geometric designs inside which are remnants of silver inlays, and on the other side with a series of squarish incised geometric designs which must have contained silver inlays, now gone. Philippines Archipelago, Mindanao Island, 19th century, maybe earlier. Diameter: 4 7/8" (12,5 cm). A small dent on the outer rim, otherwise good condition. Collected in the Philippines in 1978. A rather rare piece.
