These memento boxes were popular at the end of the eighteenth century and frequently given as tokens of friendship and love. Usually oval in shape, but also circular and rectangular, the decoration reflected the popular styles of the day. For example, by the 1790s Neoclassical style swags, doves, hearts, and borders were the most commonly used decoration of the day. This one reads "The Absent Not Forgotten."

This set of 6 porcelain soup cups and saucers was produced in the US by Willets Belleek between 1885 and 1909. The porcelain and the decoration originated from the factory. The saucers have a diameter of 5 1/4 inches and the cups are 2 inches high and 5 inches across the handles. The porcelain is egg-shell thin with a molded pattern similar to ones you might find on Irish Belleek porcelain. Sweet pink roses encircle the borders inside the cup, outside the cup and around the saucer...

A 19thC china child with doll in washtub figurine. This unusual and well made hand painted late 19th century porcelain figural whimsey or decorative figure is of a girl holding a Pierrot doll over a washtub. This European 3-5/8" across and 3-3/4" high figurine has gold trim and fine handpainting; it is unsigned except for a 2219 (or 2279) and a 49 stamped on the bottom...

This pair of porcelain candlesticks was produced in France by Tressemann & Vogt Limoges at the turn of the 19th century. They were sold white ware to a studio painter for decoration. They measure 7 5/8 inches high and the diameter of the foot is 4 1/4 inches. The pair is decorated with rose and pink colored roses that tumble around each piece. The ground color is green that shades from light to dark. The tops of the candlesticks are painted with gold.

This magnificent handcrafted Art Nouveau figural brass letter opener is the nicest one I have seen, with intricate detailed "Spirit of Life" maiden wearing a flowing, draped gown, one arm resting on back of head, the other catching her windswept gown, standing on a base of sinewy bark surrounded by clover, circa 1890's, very heavy. Measurements: 10 in. high. Condition is near perfect.

This pair of porcelain goblets or chalices was produced in England by Royal Worcester in the late 1870s. The mark goes off the edge of the porcelain not showing the date letter assigned to the year they were produced. The famous Worcester artisan, George Owen, was the first to perfect the art of double walled porcelain. The chalices are 7 ¾ inches high with a diameter of 3 5/8 inches at the opening. The outer layer of porcelain on the bodies is delicately pierced in honeycomb fashion...

These wonderful painted (some outlining is printed) plaques were done in the Staffordshire area of England in the late 18th century. They are 6 1/2" long and 4 1/2" wide. Each depicts a classical head in profile. It is uncommon to find a pair, especially in such wonderful condition. There are no chips, cracks or repairs of any kind, and the painting is vibrant and unscratched.

A rare French silver (950/1000 pure silver) tastevin from the reign of Louis XVI. This classic example features a classic design of angled “godrons” (grooves) accented with raised “perles” (pearls). The lack of deeply recessed “cupules” suggests that this wine taster was specifically intended for use with white wines. The center of the bottom has the expected tiny lathe mark where the vessel was raised from a solid block of silver...

19th century aneroid desk barometer in a stunning ivory case raised on a turned pedestal and surmounted with a carved ivory bust depicting a young farm maiden. The carving is superbly done, with great attention to the girl's hair and 18th century-style lace-trimmed bonnet. Her face is charming. The ivory has a beautiful yellowed patina that has not been cleaned. The enameled dial is in French, but there is no maker's mark visible...

This porcelain dish was produced in England around 1825. There is a hand painted pattern number 1079 on the back with no other markings. It measures 9 1/2 inches across the handles, 8 1/2 inches wide and 1 inch deep. It has molded handles and is slightly concave in the middle. The ground color is a deep cobalt blue.
