Small Christ in cast bronze, traces of gilding. French medieval 13th century. The bronze has a beautiful old patina, there is very little gilding left. He wears a loincloth and an Egyptian headdress. A stylized flower appears to be drawn on his belly. It was mounted on a gilded wooden frame probably in the 18th century. Height of Christ alone 95mm. Good condition, no repairs, normal wear for the period, beautifull original patina.

Rare and important head of a bearded apostle, his face showing a strong and passionate expression. Polychrome wood. Eyes made of glass painted inside. This is a very large, very seldom seen, antique, Buddhist Temple Mokugyo. A Mokugyo is a wooden percussion instruments that is used by monks at Buddhist Temples (in Japan, China and Korea) during Buddhist ceremonies that involve the recitation of sutras or mantras to maintain rhythm during chanting. DESCRIPTION: An antique Mexican folk art carving of a bearded St. Peter in a bishop’s hat holding a large key, symbolizing the key to the kingdom of heaven entrusted to disciple Simon Peter by Christ. This figure was probably part of a home devotional altar; figure can also be hung on a wall or entry door. Very good condition. DIMENSIONS: 13 1/8” high x 3”wide.

A pair of icon fragments done on wood with extensive gold highlights. They are both from the same icon, which, I believe, depicted the Four Evangelists. The painting is of exceptional quality, as the photos will hopefully confirm. While I believe that they in fact date to the 17th century, I am conservatively dating them to the 19th or earlier. The panels measure 3-1/2" X 5-3/8" and 3-3/8" X 5-1/2", respectively. Rare and beautiful examples.
