A rare crusie lamp with hanger, dating from the 1st quarter of the 19th century or earlier. The bowls of these lamps were filled with fish oil or mutton fat with wicks of peeled rushes. Crusie lamps were the precursors to Betty lamps and were generally made of iron or tin. To find one made of brass, and with its original hanger, is extremely uncommon.

The condition of the lamp and hanger is quite good, with normal evidence of wear...

Late 19th century brass whale oil lamp featuring a very unusual footed base with a delicately decorated edge. Has a chain for which to add a wick trimmer, snuffer, or other accoutrement. A wonderful piece for the collector, it is very good condition. Measures 19" high and 6.5 " square at the base.

French Rococo and Louis XV features inform the design of these candelabra which sit on a a footed sinuous base with ornate embellishments from which rise intertwining stems whose sinusoidal arms support separately 4 sockets and bobeches. The finish is gold patination of which there is modest loss. The base is constructed of 3 pieces. Other than the previously noted finish losses, the candelabra are in very good condition. A beautiful pair of old Sheffield candlesticks with original removable bobeches. What makes these so rare and superb are the period old Sheffield silver peg lamps with their original burners.

Peg lamps themselves are not uncommon, but they are inevitably in pewter, glass, or brass. The only other Sheffield pair I have seen was is a book on early lighting, described as highly unusual and rare; 12" tall

A pair of low candelabra in the Louis XV style with rococo lines and flowers. They were probably gilt originally but now have a gilt like patination. 10 inches (25.5 cm) tall and 12 inches (30.5 cm) across the arms. French 19th century.

Condition: very good with the newer patination. One candle cup held in place with a newer screw.
