A mother of pearl rgp telescoping lorgnette handle from the 1890s. This eyeglasses extending handle is made of ornate rolled gold plate and hand carved mother of pearl panels with nice colour flash. It measures 5-1/4" when closed and 9-3/8" when opened. The top is 5/8" across, the extension has a fine checkerboard pattern, and the retaining inserts for the eyeglass frame are made of tortoiseshell. Mid to late 19th c American hand carved wood thermometer with engraved brass temperature plate. Interesting to note is that Preezing is the spelling for Freezing. Case: 7.125" x 3.125” Brass and beveled glass carriage clock in the Boite Riche design with a shaped carrying handle above the flat pediment with the glazed aperture to view the platform escapement (not shown in photos). The rectangular lacquered brass case has gilt brass repousse work in narrow frieze above and below the beveled glass panels as well as around the base in a broader band. The case sits on brass turned feet and has a door at the back for access to the movement compartment.

This absolutely wonderful pair of Victorian opera glasses are marked Lemaire Fabt, Paris. They were made in Paris, and date back to about 1880-90. They measure 4” wide and 3” tall when fully extended and were part of the extravagant Paris opera scene during the Victorian period. What a joy to be able to take them to the opera today. Small and pretty desk seal, gilded silver and banded agate, with two minuscule French hallmarks, probably a boar´s head (in use from 1838 on small items). From around 1850-60 = 2nd Empire. The seal stone, not engraved, is yellow in tone, probably a citrine or a topaze. Height "2/ 5.4 cm. Condition: the agate handle with repair (cf. pics).

This is the original 11 1/4" by 12 1/2" painted face from a 19th century grandfather or grandmother clock, probably American, circa 1840. It stands as a work of folk art in and of itself. How the piece became separated from its clock will forever remain a mystery. There is no maker's name or town, just the Roman numeral numbers, and a theme of strawberries and leaves, along with gold decoration in the corners.
