This pair of ivory carvings of ladies and lotus was completed in the mid 19th century. They depict aristocratic ladies holding stylized bouquets of reeds and lotus. Mythical deer are leaning over their robes. The carving is superb. Their traditional hairstyles, peaceful faces and detailed silk robes, playful deer and floral design bases really contribute to the overall quality of the pieces...

Description:

An archaic bone Xi was from Warring States periods.
By enduring old patina, the ancient decorative piece was still in sound quality when old carving lines were revealed clearly.
It was also used as an instrument to loose the knotting rope.
An original hole was in the middle for fastening.

This extremely rare Neolithic Chinese bone comb was dug out in present day Province of Shaanxi, Southern region, close to Yellow River (Xi'an , Banpo settlements). It is 4" wide by 2 1/8" high. It has been cleaned and is in perfect condition. Purchased from a world-famous collection. One would be hard-pressed to find a finer example.

This antique toggle was sourced from China. I suspect that was originally from Tibet. The carved circular markings on bottom of 2 of the sides of the toggle are more typical of the ethnic minorities.

Toggle is almost 2 inches long and .5 inches x .5 inches.

The pair of mid 19th century carved ivory emperor and empress are 14”~15” high, 3”~3 ½” wide and 2 ½” thick. The emperor’s right hand holds a pagoda; his left hand carries a long sword. Two small long tailed birds and a flower plant are placed in front of him. The empress’s right hand holds a flower basket; her left hand carries a tassel. A large phoenix sitting on a garden rock is beside her...

This is a very well carved early 20th century ivory fan. The front is carved as grapes and leaves; the back and ribs are plain. The loop which holds the fan ribs together also is made of ivory. It is 7 ¾ inches long and 13 ½ inches wide (open). The silk ribbon is a replacement. It is in great condition.

This very well carved ivory horse is an early 20th century product. It depicts the reclining horse with turquoise and coral on its saddle and blanket. It is 7” long, 2 ½” wide and 3 3/8” high. Aside from two hair line cracks on the bottom due to its age, it is in great condition.

This very well carved ivory statue of a scholar is a late 19th century product. It is 11" high (with hardwood carved base, it is 13" high), 3 1/2" wide and 2 1/2" thick. The image is the well-known Song Dynasty (960AD~1270AD) hermit scholar Lin Pu (林 逋). Li Pu (967AD~1028AD) was born in Hang Zhou City, Zhe Jiang. When he was young he traveled a lot. Later in life, he settled down to live alone under the Gu Mountain near Xi Lake...

A fine cricket cage, composed of a body made from a gourd and a base, rim and lid made of ivory. The lid itself is nicely carved to represent a bird among flowers. China, 19th century. Length: 3 1/2" (9 cm). Very good condition.

This early 20th century ivory carving of a maiden is 15 7/8” high (17 ½” with base), 3 ½” wide and 2 7/8” thick. She wears a simple and elegant robe and holds a bouquet of flowers in front of her. The carving is superb and has nice patina. The wood base is a later made piece. Aside from some small hair line cracks due to its age, the statue is in great condition. An ivory tray was carved decently with plum branches, leaves, flowers and insects.
By excellent workmanship, the delicate piece was believed originated from high ranking society or even palace's collection of early Qing periods.

This very well carved Chinese ivory bead and green glass necklace is a 19th century product. It is 38” long and contains 78 ivory beads and one large glass bead. Originally, carved ivory beads were part of court necklaces in Qing Dynasty. The ivory beads are ½” in diameter; the glass bead is ¾” in diameter. Aside from minor wear due to its age, it is in great condition.
