Superb little agate lotus design brush washer. Hand carved and polished natural color stone, it has russet/orange skin in the areas carved with curling edges and the design is complete with an incised center area and fully worked underside showing stems, pods, leaves and flowers. The surface polish is first rate and this is a very desirable piece. Includes original fitted hardwood stand. Dates late Qing to early Republic. Brusher measures 3.75" x 3". This is one of 2 hexagonal shaped tea cannisters which I have listed separately. This one has an incised spring scene of two young birds and a butterfly on one side. The other side has 2 sentences from the famous Tang dynasty poem by Lu Tong. The bamboo has darkened considerably with age...

Early 20th century Chinese horn cylindrical seal with very elegantly and crisply carved Chinese characters on the base and traces of red seal paste in the grooves. The impression of the seal is shown on Enlargement 1. Beautiful dark dense horn, natural imperfections in the material. Mellow patina, overall in very good condition. Very nice object for scholar’s table. Height 2 3/16 inches, diameter 9/16 inches.

Very collectible ink cake of a Chinese woman in traditional Chinese attire wearing padded armor and holding the Chinese Army (1912 -1929)flag while her left hand crosses over body and rests on the sword pummel. The detailing is excellent and this is one of those items that looks better in person than in the photos. We feel comfortable with a pre-1920 dating. It measures 5.5" (14 cm) high, 4" (10.2 cm) widest, .75" (1.9 cm) deep.

Large, rectangular brush pot made from a dark bamboo wood. Each of its four sides has a large panel, carved skilfully with beautiful scenery. Adult and children figures are carved performing similar tasks, such as fishing over a bridge, with grass huts, rugged rock formations, large exotic trees bearing fruit, and beautiful architecture becoming the main focus of each panel. Each side is separated by a thin corner panel, carved with two serpents or dragons with vine-like bodies...

This is a Qing dynasty porcelain bee hive shaped water pot. It is sometimes referred to taibo zun or qizhao (chicken coop) in Chinese. The only difference for this piece is that this bee hive water pot does not have a neck with a small mouth. The domed shaped body has a countersunk base which is unglazed exposing the fine white colour porcelain. The pokka dot glazing makes the water pot glazing quite unusual and possibly a scarce item...
