Heavily distorted shoe shaped (kutsu) Kuro Oribe Chawan from the mid 19th century (late Edo) with a strongly flaring mouth made of light, coarse, unrefined Mino clay. The expertly thrown body was trimmed with a potters knife in its lower part and covered with a very deep black iron oxide glaze inside and outside.

A window has been left unglazed and shows a typical Momoyama era design...

A heavy Japanese iron, 19th Century, teakettle in the form of lotus leaves, with a small crab clinging to the pot. The tetsubin, with handle, measures about 7 3/4" high x 6 1/2" in diameter, and weights 58 ounces. The bronze lid is signed "Ryubundo". The condition is excellent/perfect, and it can still be used. Antique Japanese single section isho tansu (clothing chest) with two large drawers. Made all of sugi (crytomeria) wood with deep reddish brown lacquer finish on the drawer panels and black lacquer top, sides and front frame. Iron work includes two elaborate lock plates, raised seed pods in corners, and moko shaped drawer pulls. From northern Japan, possibly Nigata area. A pair of finely made and decorated Imari tokkuri (sake bottles). Bird and flowers in vase decoration rich in red enamel and gilt details over blue underglaze decoration. A pair of such high quality tokkuri is rare. Circa 1800. Both are lamped. One is otherwise in very good condition while the other has a rim chip (pictured). Height of the bottles are about 7 and 3/8 inches (about 18.73 cm)

Nagoro banana leaf tray lacquer over wood. The black lacquer shines through the red to reveal the ribs and veins of the leaf. In the literati tradition, banana leaves were used by scholar recluses as paper to write calligraphy. 19th century netsuke carved as a group of four seals - two of simple square section, one in a shape of a natural lotus bud stem (its stem serving as himotoshi), and one with shishi and ball finial.
