In the Karatsu style, but probably Kyoto ware. The buff-colored stoneware body is decorated with a stylized plum tree design in underglaze iron oxide with white slip clay for the blossoms. It is covered overall in a clear glaze that thickens a bit along one side of the inner wall, making a curtain effect. Opposite sides of the dish have been knife-cut for aesthetic appeal. The underside is clear glazed over hastily painted designs in iron oxide and white slip...

One of the most spectacular Japanese bronze hibachi's ever encountered and quite unusual in every way. Massive and weighing a solid 18 lbs. this hibachi features a well sculpted dragon that clutches the celestial pearl of wisdom that effort-sly glides about the wind that whips about its body, three monkeys in varying poses or positions support this cauldron-like monstrosity...

Eggshell or semi-eggshell Chinese vase of baluster shape, Qianlong sealmark in red but probably early 20th Century, Republic period. Decoration of a (mythical?) scene with a rider dismounting his horse and approaching a kneeling lady, all superbly painted in the Famille rose palette.Height "5½/ 14 cm. Condition: cracked and restored (cf. photos).

Late Meiji / early Taisho miniature Japanese porcelain vase depicting a family of 3 egrets in different attitudes. Perfect potting, elegant shape, beautiful underglaze powder green ground, eyes and beaks of of the birds are done in underglaze blue, in perfect condition. Signed in underglaze blue SENPO SENO SEI (Made in Senpo’s pottery) on the bottom. Height 3 3/8 inches.

A very fine lot of four larger stamp seals in superb stones (Banded carnelian, Calchedony), Sassanian, 3rd.-6th. century AD.

The lot includes different motifs on 4 nicely polished elipsoid seals.

Size: 21-23 mm. wide.

Condition: Choice and intact, finely patinated.

Ex. Egeskov Collection, an important and rare collection of Sassanian seals, handpicked over 30 years of collecting.

Samurai menpo mask with the ressei (fierce) expression, belonging to the me-no-shita "half-face" type, which stands out for its leather surface to simulate finely hammered iron. Remarkable are the generously sized imposing nose and chin, which add a distinctive element to the face of the mask. Origin: Japan Period: Edo 18th century Dimensions: 28 x 23 cm. Antique Japanese Carpenter Reel, Sumi Tsubo, Ink Line. 8.25 x 3.5 inches, 21 x 9 cm. It is rare to see sumi tsubo (Japanese carpenter's reel or inkline used for layout) fully intact with all its parts, including line and original stick pin, like this one. The Japanese word for tools is Dogu, which was originally the word for an itinerant monk's belongings. It alludes to the spiritual value which craftsmen put on their tools...

Chinese Ming 16th century sancai dish decorated with fish motive. 27,2 cm diameter. 4,3 cm high. Conditions : Have small chipped at the rim and glaze peel at one area (please see on the pictures) no crack, no repair or additional colour.

Shallow bowl with cut out rim exposing five dovetailed segments. One with two lugs for suspension. Standing on a low stemmed foot.
Fine buff-brown clay covered with brownish glaze. Patches of silvery iridescence inside.
Interesting piece which reminds of examples made in metal.

A lustrous antique Vietnamese tea bowl from the 11th-13th Century. The ivory coloring glaze has hints of blue in the central portion. The bowl is incised with 2 little boys surrounded by floral and pomegranate with a ring of dots. Indication that this piece was pressed from a mold. The rim is unglazed, as is the small footing...

Rare and unusual stoneware censer with brown Cizhou glaze. China, Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). Diameter 13,5 cm, H. 8 cm. Condition: excellent.

Three piece peddlers set with two cases. One has three drawers with a lock. The second has two drawers. Both have iron hardware. The cabinets are each decorated with a red sun and below they have inscriptions. Inscription reads: approved by the Ministry of the Interior, Medicine of Loquat Leaves, Processed at the medicine shop in Toki County, Toki Village (Today: Gifu Prefecture, Toki or Tajimi Cities), Oguri Daiji (person responsible). One has a cartouche...
