A good Nabeshima dish from the Nabeshima clan’s Okawachi kiln of oval boat shaped form, perhaps inspired by the boat shaped ingots, sychee or yuanbao, and decorated with an auspicious pattern of a pair of Goldfish swimming amongst water weeds. This particular pattern and shape belongs to a group of wares that were approved by the Shogun Ieharu in 1774 and were produced throughout the late Edo period for the consumption of the Shogunate. This is a large fine Japanese cloisonne vase from Gonda. The wireless work is beautiful. The use of the subtle yellow tones behind Mt Fuji are an exquisite touch. We have had several of the small vases like this but never one this large or this quality from Gonda. The vase stands 7 1/4 inches tall and 6 inches wide. It is mounted with silver rims and the condition is outstanding.
