Chipmunk Kachina : Yellow Case mask with tube mouth, with black, white, and red vertical stripes on back similar to those on the head. He carries a yucca leaf whip and whips his victims...

Decorated with mythical beasts. Lovely green patina. Han Dynasty (206 BC - 221 AD) Diameter 9 cm.

Description from Colton, "Case mask painted green or brown, with pop eyes, snout, cheeks painted with half moons or small circles. Douglas fir or juniper ruff. Kilt, sash, fox skin, and green moccasins. Body painted red with yellow shoulders, forearms and lower legs. Carriers rattle and bow and arrows. Appears in kivas in spring or in Mixed Kachina Dance." Good Condition consistent with age, some paint loss...

Hopi Polychrome Wood Rügan Kachina Doll *Rügan Rasp Kachina -A class of male kachinas that come in groups, accompanied by the Corn Maidens, who play on rasp musical instruments. There are said to be various types who have the same songs but my informants could not name or describe them all. The feather headdress made of four eagle feathers, two projecting horizontally above each ear, seems to be characteristic of all kachinas called Rügan...

A large and wonderfully proportioned heavy baluster goblet with a solid base conical bowl. The stem has a wide angular knop and a basal knop, each with an air tear which also extends between the two knops. Conical folded foot with a rough, snapped pontil.

Superb condition with great color, striations, and tooling marks. 7 11/16 inches tall, with a bowl diameter of 3 13/16 inches and a foot diameter of 3 5/8 inches.

-Hopi Wood Polychrome Kachina Doll -Bison Maiden Kachina Doll -Mosairu Kachina Buffalo Girl -Height: 9 1/4 inches -C.1920 - The Buffalo Dance my be given during the interval between the Soyal or Solistice Ceremony and the Powamu or Bean Dance. Usually, two girls and two boys dance as Buffalo and Buffalo Girl accompanied by a large male chorus. It is one of the dances most frequently seen off reservation.

Koshare's general description from Colton: "Face mask painted white with black eyes and mouth. Two soft black and white striped horns on top of head. Rag ruff. Breech clout. Bare feet. Body painted in black and white horizontal stripes...

A variant of Hopi Mona Kachina River or Thunder Kachina -Green case mask, triangular mouth, a band across the forehead. Fur ruff. Kilt, sash, woman's belt, red moccasins. Bluish body paint. Appears singly in Mixed Kachina Dances. Third Mesa. -Height: 9 inches -Width: 2.5 inches -c.1930-1940

A Chinese bronze censer, Qing Dynasty. Length 19.4 cm (across handles), diameter 13.6 cm, height 8.3 cm and weight 1600 gram. Good condition.

Circa 1840-1850. Buffalo hide quiver with traces of red and green pigment. Contains seven arrow shafts, four with metal points. Ash bow with original animal hair and fiber string. Provenance: Mordecai Thomas Bertram (1843-1904) collected c. 1860-1870 on the Sauk and Fox reservation, then descended within the family.

A Chinese Bronze censer, Qing Dynasty. Length approximately 28.9 cm (across handle). Height approximately 18.2 cm (with stand) and 10.4 cm (without stand). Weight approximately 1.6 kg (the stand) and 3.4 kg ( the censer). Good condition.

Hopi Hemis Kachina doll with tablita. Circa 1880-1890. Minor paint and wood loss. Dimensions: 14 1/4" tall.

A cottonwood Hopi Mudhead Kachina doll circa 1900. Depicting Koyemsi, the Mudhead Clown, of slightly attenuated form, arms hugging the torso, the case mask decorated with three circular attachments, representing gourds; painted with red, black and brown pigments. Description by Colton, 1949, p.59: "Koyemsi is the most common Hopi clown. He appears in Mixed Kachina Dances and sometimes a group of Koyemsi appear in a dance of their own, At First Mesa they are said to sing Zuni songs." 8 1/2" tall.
