This wonderfully detailed pin is by Edmond-Henri Becker, one of the best-known French medalists from the turn of the last century. The front shows Joan of Arc (patron saint of France and of soldiers) in profile, also a shield decorated with a sword, a crown, and 2 fleurs-de-lis. Above her head is a banner saying “Jehanne d’Arc” and “1429”. The back shows a banner with a figure which is hard to make out, and two people praying...

A spectacular sterling and multi color enamel bracelet by the Norwegian company Balle. This is a heavy hinged cuff with a pin closure and safety chain. The enamel is in fine condition and the colors are vibrant. Measuring 7 1/4" around in the inside, it is 1 1/4" wide and weighs 104 grams. Signed as shown. Magnificent.

NEW BOOK: This is the most popular quarterly antique magazine published in Japan. It is from Gakken, Gakushu Kenkyu-sha. This is their 23rd edition, published on Sep 15, 2001. I had a chance to purchase one of these series a year ago. Within a year I looked for others and purchased the next two books when they were available.

A rare 19th or early 20th century Malayan kris with an attractive pamir/pamor steel blade. The hilt has a (probably replacement) metal collar and a finely carved Garuda head in "kingfisher" form. The wood scabbard is decorated with engraved Straits Chinese style white metal bands depicting Buddhist emblems. There are old losses to the 'flared' top of the scabbard and the left 'ear' of the Garuda head is missing. Unusually there is no damage to the 'nose'. The old blade is in very good condition...

Bold and striking sterling necklace designed by Karl Gustav Hansen for Hans Hansen of Denmark. This necklace is from the "Future" line of jewelry manufactured by Hans Hansen between 1932 and 1948. Measuring 15 1/4" end to end, the links are articulated so move and flow freely. The necklace terminates with a threaded screw bolt clasp. It is 3/4" wide and weighs a substantial 137 grams. Signed as shown. A very unusual and spectacular Danish Modernist design.

A celadon mallet-shaped vase, decorated on vertical faces with two moulded lugs in the form of Dragons. Covered overall with olive green glaze. Chinese 14th-15th century Longquan ware. Excellent condition, no chips, crack or restored. High: 15.6 cm.

An accomplished member of the Mexico City school of repoussage, maestro M. Velazquez was a contemporary of Matilde Poulat's and many of his designs are actually based on Matl's originals. The level of craftsmanship and the quality of his work have contributed to his becoming increasingly sought after by collectors, especially with the high prices Poulat's creations realize. I love all his pieces but I have a particular affinity for his brooches and this one, I have never seen in the past...

Mystical, magical, eerie, artistic are all words that describe this wonderful vase by Vicke Lindstrand for Kosta. Heavy hand-formed glass, black trees cased in clear crystal, with a fog of opalescent haze in the branch tops. Vase is reminiscent of quiet, solemn woods when the fog starts drifting in on a slight breeze. Created in 1958 by Vicke Lindstrand for Kosta this vase is part of the Unica series of hand made one of a kind glass pieces...

Big, beautifully crafted and early as is indicated by the low design number this Deco Los Castillo silver brooch is wrought en repoussage in what seems to have been a favored motif among Mexican silversmiths and designers at the time. Fern leaves inspired rings, clamper bracelets, brooches and necklaces and of course, earrings. The design comes in variations enough to ensure that everybody will find a piece that appeals to them. The specific version, however, I have never encountered before...

This ribbed Hector Aguilar Bracelet is a rare find with 104 grams of heft and a striking height of 1 3/4 inches. Perfectly hallmarked with an applied plaque. This treasure is well rounded fitting perfectly on the wrist. The diameter is 2 3/8 in. The 6 stones are a hidden surprise presenting to the one who wears it. No dents and versatile to wear with anything anywhere.

This pair of handmade woman's shoes were made with cotton vamp and satin stitched embroidered flower motif. The exaggerated upturned front toe was used as a decorative element by several minority groups but from the detailing, I think that they are most likely Miao ethnic minority. They are small and narrow, and probably belonged to a young girl. The Miao, like most minorities, did not practice foot binding. The walking sole measures 6.5 inches long and 2" at the widest part.

A 'Chaise Longue' after a design by Le Corbusier and Charlotte Perriand - the LC-4 model. From the Basics Le Corbusier line by Palazzetti, introduced in 1981, with attached foil label. Black leather and chrome on a black metal frame. Originally designed in 1928; this chair is about 12 years old. Excellent condition. Now considered to be a classic modern design.
