Robust, medieval styled mizusashi by veteran Shigaraki potter; Furutani Churoku IV (b. 1922). This face of this large mizusashi is covered in a wonderful layer of green ash and the back exhibits very fine hi-iro fire color...

Large, oburi style Shiro-Hagi chawan with notched wari-kodai and profuse crackling around the bowl. I have no idea who made this large chawan as I can not read the seal, partially covered with glaze.

The are a few small spots of glaze loss as can be seen in the pictures, but all in all, this is a very handsome and strong chawan that looks great on a shelf. No box.

Elegant and tall Hagi vase with a coating of lavender ash glaze diagonally across the body. A strong delineated collar for a mouth and two lugs on either side punctuate this vase. A ceramic koro incense burner, the stone-like body decorated with a portion of a red ring by Sato Kazuhiko enclosed in the original wooden box with all the exhibition paraphernalia. It is 8-1/2 x 4 x 8 inches (21.5 x 10 x 20 cm) and is in excellent condition. Large and impressive Iga chawan by rising Iga-yaki star, Atarashi Manabu.The surface of this chawan is covered in a sheet of glass and there is wonderful bidoro drips and clam shell impressions where the chawan was fired on its side. The kodai, foot is wonderfully sculpted and fits well into the hand when in use.

Atarashi Manabu is one of the new generation of Iga and Shigaraki potters who is reinvigorating these ancient traditions...

A lidded vessel of diamond form decorated with a circle and square viewed through vertical blinds of changing colors beaded with silver dew by Kondo Takahiro. It comes enclosed in the original signed wooden box enclosed inside a red lacquered outer wooden box (Niju Tomobako) dating circa 2002. This rare Ido chawan is glazed in a milky ash, Hagi style glaze and was presumably made at the kiln of the Tenryu-ji temple (Kyoto-yaki) as it bares the seal of the kiln. The clay was made using ground roof tile, a piece brought back from China which is explained in the accompanying paperwork provided with the chawan. This chawan has an elegant form and well addressed kodai, foot and has red over glaze (aka-e) decoration of the kanji “JU” and the cipher of Seki Bokuo.
