Original charcoal and pastel drawing by Wade Reynolds (USA, 1929-2011). This work is in excellent condition. Signed l.r. and inscribed: "For Harry--Merry Christmas 1977". 14" by 18" work alone, 21" by 25" in its gallery frame. Wade Reynolds was a L.A. California artist well known for his striking nudes. His work was widely exhibited: Santa Barbara Museum of Art, Cleveland Museum of Art, Miami Institute of Fine Art, etc.

A truly high quality charcoal drawing decidedly in the modernist vein, featuring two female figures, probably nuns, in an intriguing and mysterious landscape, one holding in her hand a Christian cross. The work, measuring 18" by 12 1/2" (25 1/2" by 19 1/2" framed), is signed at lower right "Joseph", which according to a biography in Hughes' Dictionary of California Artists is the typical signature of JOSEPH MARSH SHERIDAN (1897-1971)...

A charcoal drawing of Bellaire, Michigan (northern part of the state), signed at lower right and dated 1936, and titled there "Bellaire, Mich.", (and titled on reverse backing "Evening Landscape" (crossed out, and nearby artist signature also crossed out), by well known Michigan artist CHARLES CULVER (1908-1967). This is a rather early work, created when the artist would have been in only his late 20's...

Charles Gates Sheldon (b. 1889 / d. 1960) Charles Sheldon was born in Worcester, Massachusetts in 1894. He spent most of his life in Springfield. In high school, he contributed to the artwork in the yearbook. Sheldon studied at the Arts Students League. He then studied under Alphonse Mucha in Paris...

This is an original charcoal on paper portrait drawing of a young woman, 18" by 12 1/2" inside the mat (25" by 19" as framed), signed "J Floch" at lower right. His prints and drawings (see a lithograph by the artist, in my shop) are quite affordable, while paintings have brought to the $80,000 area at auction in Europe and America. Floch was born in Austria, but spent the later part of his life in the New York area. From an online biography: "Joseph Floch was born in Vienna, Austria in 1895...

This one is hard to describe....but I will start somewhere. It is an oil on canvas work, unframed, 24" by 24", with no signature on the front, and only "SARAH W." on the overlap giving any possible indication as to who painted this. A green eye within a triangular window in to a human face stares at the viewer, Magritte-like, as the face of a young black child stares from the lower right corner, as a complex pair of intertwined figures at lower left make for arresting and dream-like imagery...

Charcoal drawing of a Native American woman removing a garment, 17" by 9 1/2" (24 1/2" by 16 1/2" framed), signed at lower left by noted contemporary American western artist NED JACOB (1938-). Jacob was born in Tennessee and found himself in Montana at a young age, working in Glacier Park. He became acquainted with the well-known Montana artist Ace Powell, who became a mentor. In the 1960's Jacob moved to Taos, New Mexico, where he began to paint in Walter Ufer's old studio...

Original charcoal drawing by Jean Hippolyte Marchand (French, 1883-1940). Initialed JHM l.r. Also with a gallery label verso from Crane Kalman Gallery, 178 Brompton Rd. London, which gives the name of the artist, the title of the work, and the name of the purchaser in 1967. Crane Kalman Gallery handled the estate of the artist and held a number of exhibitions of his work, including a retrospective exhibition in 1967. One of three works by this artist currently available.

This is a scarce drawing by noted American artist CHARLES VEZIN; most known works are oils. This example, measuring 16 3/4" by 13 3/8" (sheet, unframed) does not photograph impressively, as it lacks color and appears faint to the camera, but, it is a complete and powerful work of art, the subject the famous Flatiron Building in New York City. The artist started painting late in life, taking his first art lesson at the age of 41...

This is a work by the German artist MAX MAYRSHOFER (1875-1950), likely created around the time of World War I. Mayrshofer, the son of a baker, was born in Munich and it is with that Bavarian city that he is closely associated...

Charcoal on paper, 7 7/8" by 11 3/8" (14 1/4" by 17 7/8" as framed), not signed above the mat (not opened up), but bearing a 1968 label on the reverse from ACA American Master Gallery of La Cienega Blvd. in Los Angeles, providing the name of the artist, with the words below stating "From the estate by K Moskowitz". This is a rather typical subject for the artist, EUGENE HIGGINS (1874-1958), who is today grouped with the Ash Can school of American art of the first half of the twentieth century...
