A charming, signed, pastel portrait by Dorothy Colles (1917-2003) who was (according to an obituary published in the Independent newspaper) "gifted in portraits of children". This picture was drawn circa 1963 (please see our other Colles picture) and was a commissioned piece for an advertising poster. Dorothy Colles has exhibited through the Royal Academy and the Royal Society of Portrait Painting. Condition - excellent. The picture 20 inches by 17.7 inches (51cm x 45cm)...

A fine drawing (10 1/2" by 15 1/4" inside the present mat, 18" by 21 1/2" as framed (no glass) by the well listed Czech artist MAX SVABINSKY (1873-1962), featuring cloud formations and a sliver of land below. The artist signed at lower right and dated the work 1949. The medium appears to be charcoal or soft pencil on paper, with a bit of brown color included. A Svabinsky oil painting sold for over $300,000 at auction in the Czech Republic in 2016...
A refined old drawing titled "Caterskill Clove" dated Oct. 7, 1859, the subject a famed rocky gorge in the eastern part of the Catskill mountains of New York State (google "Catskill Clove" for full information on this renowned scenic area). The work is apparently unsigned. There are any number of listed artists of the Hudson River School who could have created the drawing; Sanford Robinson Gifford, William Hart, Asher Durand and many others of note painted in the area...
By the listed South African modern artist STANLEY NKOSI (1945-1988) is this PAIR of charcoal on paper drawings celebrating the nobility of manual laborers, identically framed in silvery metal, the drawings measuring 22 1/2" by 17 1/2", both signed at bottom and dated there "73". Nkosi was an interesting figure. Born in Natal he moved to Dukathole near Germiston in the Transvaal (now Gauteng)...
A charcoal drawing of Bellaire, Michigan (northern part of the state), signed at lower right and dated 1936, and titled there "Bellaire, Mich.", (and titled on reverse backing "Evening Landscape" (crossed out, and nearby artist signature also crossed out), by well known Michigan artist CHARLES CULVER (1908-1967). This is a rather early work, created when the artist would have been in only his late 20's...
An original vintage Chinese ink painting of a Running Horse in the manner of Xu Beihong signed to the center right. Ink on a mottled colored paper presented matted and in a thin wood frame. Overall framed size 16.5" W x 23.5" H x 1.0" D. In good condition minor surface wear and very light crease to the paper.

An antique, classical, academic red chalk drawing of the head and neck of a young male, 19 3/4" by 15 1/4" (25" by 20 1/2" framed), unsigned. The circa 18th century drawing is quite beautiful and Neo-Classical, after the sculpture of ancient Greece and Italy. The gold frame does have some losses.

She has exhibited through the Royal Academy and the Royal Society of Portrait Painting. There is a water 'splash' above the head of the boy which we have not attempted to restore. Otherwise excellent condition. The picture 19.5 inches by 17.3 inches (49.5cm by 44cm)
