A very fine watercolor of mogul origin depicting dancers at a court of Royalty. Measuring about 12” x 9”, the work has an Arabic script on the reverse side and was from a hand illustrated manuscript before 1900

For the collector of marine or maritime art and antiques, a color drawing, 12" by 28" with simple 3/4" wood frame, depicting what appears to be a ferry boat of the first part of the century. There's an initial signature at lower right that looks like "HWS" or "AWS". The work is a multi-media piece; it appears that pencil, colored pencil, pastel and even white gouache were part of the mix. The tan paper is thin almost tissue like; it is wrinkled in many spots (see photos)...

He began work under Master Wang Guan-Yu in 1987. Though young, his skills offer much promise for a brilliant future. His talents lie in reproducing Song Dynasty and other traditional landscapes and figures.

DALE NICHOLS (1904-1995) is an American artist best known for his lyrical paintings of Midwest Heartland homesteads and farms in deep winter. These coveted paintings sell for mid to upper five figures at major New York auctions. Nichols was a traveler and later in life he spent considerable time in Guatemala, where he painted a number of works showing the landscape and inhabitants. See the askart listing on him. This carved agate contemporary snuff bottle is 2 ¾” high, 1 ¾” wide and 1 ¼” thick. The lighter part was carved as “Buddha hand citron” shape and used as the body of the bottle. The darker color agate was carved into a small bug which is resting on the fruit. It is well hollowed, polished and in great condition.

Gouache and watercolor on smooth side of Masonite painting of a merchant ship in a stormy sea, 11 1/2" by 15 3/4" (18" by 22" as framed---no glass), signed at lower right "HINGER" (California artist Richard Hinger, born 1937). The work is technically excellent, leading one to think it a print, but I guarantee this to be an original work...

A fine example of art from Canada's far north, a mixed media drawing (17 1/2" by 24 1/2", 23 1/4" by 30 1/4" framed), signed at lower right and dated there 1986 by noted Inuit artist PETER RAGEE (1955-). A native man seems to be pulling on a reindeer, stylized land (ice pack?) below. The medium appears to be some kind of crayon, with some salmon rose ink outlines. Condition is excellent save for some slight rippling of the paper at top...

In the style of an artist like Stark Davis is this 15 1/2" by 19 1/2" gouache painting, gold paint used for the background to the parrot and vegetation, possibly oleander, the work signed at lower left "O. Schroeter". This is a work dating to about the late 1930's to about 1950, by listed artist OTTO FELIX SCHROETER (born circa 1880 in Germany, died circa 1965 in California)...

A twentieth century pastel on paper drawing of white and yellow flowers in a white vase, signed at lower right with what appears as "Raymond" or similar. The work measures 10 1/2" by 8 1/2" inside the present brown mat (16 1/2" by 12 1/2" framed). Found in Los Angeles, the work is on English paper---I suppose it could be English. The hand that created this was talented and it is a lovely little still life.

When I first saw this I thought it might be an image of Obama, in the style of Shepard Fairey, who created the now-famous "Hope" image. Upon closer examination I saw that it was obviously older, circa 1960's, judging from the label on the frame, which gives the artist as a Jim Moran of Visalia, California. The subject remains to me a mystery, but I wonder if it might be a famous 1960's African-American activist---or then again it might not be a black subject at all...

This is a hand painted original work, the subject a newly married couple, he in Edwardian (??) formal coat and medals and monocle, she in traditional white with a corsage. The image was either intentionally cut out by the artist and pasted onto a board which was in turn pasted onto a light green silky surface, or someone has subsequently decided on this presentation. Currently the figures therefore stand out in something of a three dimensional manner from the background...
