The painting is signed at lower right "Elsie Crosam" or "Crosom", "Creson", or similar. The piece would be an excellent practice work for a budding restorer as there is a major rip in the center, as shown; or you might buff up the frame a bit and use it with another painting. There is light wear on it.

A vintage mid century oil on board or oil on canvasboard painting of a dirt track in the Arizona desert, the landscape filled with the classic saguaro cacti, and at right a yellow flowering tree, causing the painting to be titled "Lluvia de Oro Tree" ("Shower of Gold") on the backing paper, where the artist, LOUIS ELMORE SMITH, also dated it April 1961. He signed it on the lower right corner. Painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition...

Brooks Pettus (1918-2003) was a noted western American artist who passed away in Kennewick, Washington, leaving behind a large body of work in watercolor and oil that only recently appeared on the market. An interesting Mid-Century abstract on paper, 12" by 16" inside the mat, 18 3/4" by 23" framed, unsigned. The work could well date to the 1960's, the paper thin and slightly browned. I am not clear on the type of paint used; it is not simple watercolor. Could be a mix of some sort; the gold is metallic and the darkest portions have a gloss when viewed at an angle. This is a very nicely executed decorative impressionistic painting of a pond in spring within a groomed park-like setting, complete with mini-island with pagoda type rock formation, all surrounded by flowering springtime trees. There might even be orange koi fish in the pond. The painting, most likely American in origin, is oil on canvas laid on board. It is signed at lower right but I cannot seem to make it out. An American circa late 1960's to about 1970 still life painting in oil on rough side of the Masonite, 18" by 14" (24" by 19 1/2" framed), signed at lower left possibly "Pardoe". The red poppies are beautifully rendered and the richness of the red contrasts with the deep blue of the vase. Condition is excellent. A very decorative painting, in a frame of the period.
