A decorative oil on canvas painting of a winter forest and pond scene, executed in predominantly blues, browns and white, the generous and liberal amount of paint quite vigorously and impressionistically moved around by the artist, JULIAN RHINEHARDT (1915-), who signed at lower right. The 24" by 20" work (34 1/2" by 30 1/2"as framed) is in excellent condition. Painting probably dates to the 1970's or early 1980's. Rhinehardt's biographical information seems to be elusive...

Unlike most commonly seen works by this artist, which are actually serigraph prints, this is an original oil on canvas painting, measuring 34" by 25 1/2" (39" by 31" framed). The scene is of the Golden Gate with the famous bridge half hidden by the fog, as spinnakers of yachts billow in a brisk breeze. The work is signed at lower right "Dietrich" (HERMANN DIETRICH 1916-2003)...

A fine oil on canvas by Leo Jansen (American 1930-1980) whose career is best noted for his nudes and the many paintings of Playmates of the Month for Playboy magazine during the 1960s and 70s. His reputation earned many commissions from then-reigning stars such as Raquel Welch and Stephanie Powers.

Oil on masonite painting "Autumn in the Rockies" by Arthur J. Hammond (sgnd l.r.). This work uses bright autumnal colors muted with browns and greys. The broad, heavy strokes give the work a post-Impressionist look. The painting was acquired along with two others, both dated 1924, hence the dating of this work.

The back is marked in pencil in the artist's hand, "Autumn in the Rockies/Arthur J. Hammond/Rockport, Massachusetts." A later label in another hand reads, "Arthur J. Hammond/Am. b...

George Loring Brown, Malden, Massachusetts, 1814-1889. This expensive landscape is a view of Sorrento including Mount Vesuvius in the background. This oil on canvas is 12" x 20" in a 3" 19th century frame. It is signed and titled verso very clearly and it is in very good condition with appropriate craqueleur. The edges have been reinforced but are still original. He lived in the U.S. and Europe and his more sought after paintings are those of southern Italy...

WPA portrait of a woman by Charles Winegarner. A fantastic oil on canvas of a stoic woman with an almost cubist background. There is an original repair that seems to have been fixed by the artist, the spot is in her hair to the left side. This is a large painting in its original frame . The condition is good though it shows some wear. Overall 42" by 31.5" with a .75" frame

Oil on canvas laid on board 9 3/4" by 8", unframed, the subject a red-haired child, signed at lower right by the noted children's art illustrator at mid century, MAUD TOUSEY FANGEL (1881-1968). The work is slightly reminiscent of the impressionism of Pierre-Auguste Renoir. Fangel was a much-in-demand illustrator for east coast-based magazines such as Ladies Home Journal. She came to be something of a celebrity when it came to depicting children awake and asleep...

Antique oil on canvas of cherries on a table top, 8" by 11 3/4" (11 1/2" by 15 1/2" as framed), signed indecipherably at lower left; name could be W C Hammond, Hammons, or Higgins, or? The work is in the tradition of American 19th century still life and likely dates to about 1880. Some very old patches on the reverse attest to old battle scars the painting acquired in its some 150 years of existence...

This is a classic mountain scene favored by the artist (he seems to have painted that particular mountain over and over again), with large eucalyptus trees and a lake with distant mountains, all executed in Sartelle's unique impressionistic style and characteristic color palette. Interesting painting of the Southwest, showing Native Americans at a nocturnal religious ceremony or festival such as Penitente, probably in New Mexico, many candles flickering in the scene also populated with processional crosses. A work on canvas, 16" by 20", unframed/unsigned, featuring spatter drips in blue, red, yellow and a touch of green, on a white ground, in the style of famed modern American painter Sam Francis. I think the paint is likely acrylic. The work is a rather more affordable version, compared to the six or seven figure paintings by the master. A pleasing addition to your Mid Century interior, in excellent condition.
