I have been unable to link this to a known artist, but the painting is quite edgy and advanced, and technically skilled, reminding of the work of known artists who paint in what I imagine might be called the "Contemporary Realism" style. Oil on canvas painting of a classic red barn in Alaska's Matanuska Valley near Anchorage, signed at lower left by artist Ted Goldstone and dated 3/69 and titled on stretcher. The Matanuska Valley is known as Alaska's prime agricultural area. The long hours of daylight in summer have produced record cabbages, among other produce. The high surrounding mountains remind one that one is in Alaska and not the Midwest. The art measures 16" by 12".

Oil on canvas, 8" by 10" and 1" wide frame, the subject a classic plein air landscape of the low desert. It is signed "Geraldine" at lower right, and on reverse is the inscription "To Dad Happy Anniversary from Mom". The painter was talented but no doubt still an amateur. This is a pleasant decorative painting that is ready to hang on the wall.

A large portrait of a woman of obvious wealth and status, 36" by 35", signed "Wells" at lower right on a prop envelope, and dated there 1930, set into a beautiful, unique, valuable 3 3/4" wide frame by the famous framemaker M. (Maurice) Grieve Co. of New York and London (see photo, reverse of frame). An online search did not turn up a "Wells" artist that would obviously fit with this work's subject matter, handling, and period...

An oil on canvasboard painting, the subject a tawny western American landscape populated by four cowboys and six horses, signed at lower left by contemporary artist Richard Harris. I do not see a listing for an artist by this name but obviously, he was talented, seeing as that he captured so beautifully the horses-- a notoriously difficult subject to paint well. The work reminds a bit of that of listed California artists Bill Bender and James Colt...

BARTON STONE HAYS (1826-1914) was born in Ohio, and he came to be associated with the Midwest throughout his life, becoming a leading portrait painter in Indianapolis, and finally, coming to be known for his still life works, based out of Minneapolis, after 1882. Early in his life he was a Daguerreotypist, diorama painter and portrait painter, and there are some rare and sought-after genre paintings, some even of African-American subject matter...

Oil on board painting of trees in a landscape, 11" by 9" in narrow original frame, signed at lower right by listed artist "A. KLUG". The painting is executed in a very impressionist hand, and is quite lovely, but is also very dirty. A professional cleaning would really be well worthwhile investment. The frame being old is showing its age, with losses as seen. The artist is listed in Davenport's dictionary of artists but there does not seem to be much information available on him or her.

Oil on Masonite painting of coastal rocks and waves, framed in an interesting and appealing vintage wood frame, signed at lower right by artist J. Wessely. I do not see a listing for the artist, who created an attractive and dynamic composition. The painting measures 18" by 24" (22 3/4" by 28 3/4" framed). It could date to about the early 1950's, judging from frame and board. The frame has a rugged, "Cabin Art" feeling with bold outdoorsy carving...

This is a circa late 1940's or perhaps 1950's work I would guess, by noted listed artist JOSEPH WEISMAN (1907-1994). Weisman was born in the east but was already in California as a young man...

Oil on canvasboard, 12" by 16" (17" by 21" as framed), signed at lower right by artist CURT PAULSON. I do not see a listing but the artist had a skilled hand. The style reminds a bit of California desert painters William Darling or Fred Chisnall. There is impasto, vigorous brush stroke, and a grayish blue light over the scene. Apparently original whitish antiqued frame completes this ready for the wall package. Condition is excellent.

He studied at the Art Students' League whith Frank Vincent DuMond and George Bridgman from 1910 to 1914. He also studied at the National Academy of Design with Volk and Maynard from 1914 to 1917. Philipp painted a wide range of subjects from genre and portraits to Paris, bars, nudes, clowns, flowers and coasts...
