This is a pre-1900, fine original oil by J.F. Herring. Overall with frame it measures 42” by 30”. The painting itself is 36” by 24”. It is fully signed J.F. Herring.

A circa late 1800's or circa 1900 antique painting on gray art board of a lake at sunset, a steep outcropping with ruins at left and a small boat completing the composition, unsigned, by an amateur hand, 13 1/2" by 8 3/4" as framed. The work is in an ornate turn of the century frame with a few missing chips that could be easily painted over in gold. What more is there to say---it is a classic little painting of its era, perfect for a small or narrow wall.

This is a very unusual American portrait of a lady. The painting is oil on canvas mounted loosly on a cardboard with tacks. The painting is done in a many layered style which is similar to the style of Albert Pinkham Ryder (1847-1917). It is marked in pencil on the back Ms. Pitts. A PAIR of American oil on board mountain landscapes, each 23 1/2" by 11 3/4" (29 1/2" by 17 1/2" framed), both signed at lower corner A. A. Baker. There does not seem to be biographical information on the Hudson River-inspired artist, who likely painted these in the mid 1880's. It is doubtful that they have ever been cleaned. There is a smell of smoke. One has a 1" puncture of the board (in the tree at right), the pressure having come from the reverse side; the piece remains attached...

Thomas Crawford HAMILTON 1887 Child Portrait oil on canvas measuring 20x26” the artist was born near Oxford England in 1860 and won the Prix de Paris to attend schools in France and later Italy.

A well executed oil on wood panel still life of yellow roses, green grapes, goblets, glasses, decanter and candle stick on a table cloth, signed illegibly at lower right (appears as "Hans Meh...." or similar), circa 1890. The work measures 21 1/2" by 28" and the panel is 1/2" in thickness. The signature certainly appears to be European. I have tried and tried again to make it out but have not succeeded...

Circa 1880's painting in oil on a 14" diameter papier mache style plate, unsigned, featuring a winter scene at dusk. This charming antique work by an anonymous artist has nice detail and light. The artist was not professional but certainly had some training and a good eye for color and composition. The work has acquired some small losses, showing as white spots in the imagery, and along the rim. See old original label on reverse with 1880 patent date. Found in coastal New Jersey.
